This explains very well why the increased Tariffs will be very bad to not only Canada but the U.S as well. The worst thing is that this isn't really needed as there's no real precedence. Trump wants a show of force and is picking what he feels is an easy target. He did something similar during his last term but nothing ended up happening due to backlash from industries, and he could very well be bluffing, but it does feel like the gloves are off this time around.

When Trump says this he isn’t bluffing. Democracies who don’t elect who he endorses at state level in the United States or outside it will be punished. Either with no funding or with tariffs.Rumpy wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 1:10 am he could very well be bluffing, but it does feel like the gloves are off this time around.
Already you have people who want trumps favour in other democracies.
You have Conservative Party premiers and the federal opposition all but declaring trump is right to impose tariffs on Canada.

All I can say is what border worries. What drug worries? Most drugs brought into Canada are for domestic consumption and more refugees use the United States as an entry point to Canada than the other way around.
The actions of premiers ford and smith to my mind indicated their willingness to join Trumpmerica over their own country.
If your premiers are willing to commit what is at least abject disloyalty to Canada what hope do you have to maintain your sovereignty?
What leader of a province or leader of the opposition openly calls for tariffs on Canada?
It’s often the Murdoch media behind it. For example their version of Fox News in Australia, called Sky News is getting maga loyalists on their channel and pointing out “horrible” “oppressive” things the Australian government is doing (such as the prime minister meeting premier Xi of China) . It’s very clear that if Australia doesn’t change its government to a maga aligned one they will be punished.
In the Uk the Murdoch media is pushing for a rerun of the election which was run 3 months ago demanding that maga ally Nigel Farange be appointed Prime minister.

Yeah, that's what I mean. The tone is much different this time around.waitingtoconnect wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2024 6:09 amWhen Trump says this he isn’t bluffing. Exactly, as the video points out, the drugs coming in is a very minimal amount, so surely it isn't the big issue it's being painted as, so there must be another grudging point behind it.All I can say is what border worries. What drug worries? Most drugs brought into Canada are for domestic consumption and more refugees use the United States as an entry point to Canada than the other way around.
Pfft, they are outliers in this Country. Most of the Country doesn't think that way. It's not our will to just bend over and let him ream us.The actions of premiers ford and smith to my mind indicated their willingness to join Trumpmerica over their own country.

Tariffs seem to be the only thing Trump knows:
One day, someone is going to call his bluff. He also fails to realize that if we put tariffs on every country that trades either us, it will hurt us a lot more than it hurts them.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't "know" tariffs any more than he knows anything else, even if they are the only tool he chooses to use.

Exactly, Max. The fact that he's planning to go ahead with hefty tariffs might indicate that he doesn't really how how they'll affect the U.S economy. That's the feeling I'm getting anyway. Canadians will feel it of course, but Americans will end up feeling it more in elevated prices everywhere due to manufacturing being so tightly woven between the borders.

You can’t do both:
If he plans to balance the budget with tariffs, then they are going to have to be huge. We’ll get inflation AND a recession. People are going to look back fondly at Biden.

Wasn’t anything we could do to avoid it, considering Harris wasn’t perfect.

Well he's slowly drifting out of range

I mean, yeah. She was a woman and a democrat and then you add her mixed race. She wasn't even close to perfect. What reasonable choice did the voting people in the US have, really? If a candidate isn’t *perfect*, your only option is to vote for the other guy, who happens to be the worst candidate in the history of this country - and then be surprised at all the terrible things he does.

Nobody's perfect, even the greatest Presidents. They all have their faults.
But yeah, I fully expect there to be a recession if they do go into effect. The N/A MSRP will rise for a lot of products on both sides of the border.

So long as Pain is worse in 5 years or there is a sweeping reform in midterms we can safely blame all of the problems created on democrats.

Oh, make no mistake, they'll seek someone or something to blame, and it will fall on Canada for the high prices. Trump will point the finger and his followers will eat it up. I can just picture it.

Steve Jackson Games announced that they won't be doing the planned Kickstarter for Car Wars: Cycles, citing the risk of tariffs changing the economics for the project.

Ya know, if SJG simply produced a computer version of Car Wars, like everyone (that is me) wants them to do, they wouldn't need to worry about outsourcing production to China and getting hammered by tariffs. Just sayin'....

They can do both.
There’s something fun about the physical play. I have the Double Ace set and painted the cars. I’m tempted to get the new color bases so I can run 6 players at Octocon instead of 4. I still have a bunch of the unpainted tiny metal minis from the 80s an old Swatch Watch case.

Re: Trumponics - Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love Tariffs
Found this interesting about the Canadian border, so I'm putting it here: Basically it asks, is Trump right about the Canadian Border?
Basically the gist is, yes there are drugs coming into the U.S via the Canadian border, and there isn't enough border security to deal with it all, but at the same time, it's on such a smaller scale as compared to Mexico yet we're being lumped together with a much larger problem. I gather Trump wants Canada to add more border security along the parts of the border that the video points out.

And the fact that he's repeated the threat must mean Trump must really want it to happen. So, there's that. On the other hand, the reason why I feel his 'jokes' and ramblings' are just as dangerous, is because the MAGA crowd and Fox News see this kind of thing and see it as his gospel, and are enthusiastic for them to happen.

Re: Trumponics - Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying & Love Tariffs
So Trump admitted yesterday that he will not be lowering the prices of food, or anything else for that matter, because, well, enough billionaires probably explained to him that once people are accustomed to paying a given price point for something, there's no way in hell they will cut their margins and lower prices on anything. A big FU to those who voted for that lying sack of shit for believing that he would do this, despite all credible economists predicting an inflationary shitstorm.
