I have a question. Why does everyone seem to love Dell LCDs? Aren't they just branded as Dell, but made by other companies(like Samsung and others)? Is it cheaper, better warranty, or does Dell add something to the monitor that is different from the company it buys from?

The price is right.

Dell buys the panel from the other companies, but the rest of the system is built for Dell. So there are some nice features as well (the S-Video in and USB on the 2001FP is a plus for me).

Ah, kk. Thx for the answer guys.

EDIT: Dang martindemon. That's a BIG price difference! Heck, at those prices, I would get a Dell Lcd too, even though I hate the brand :-D

The Samsung equivalent was 2100$CAD; the Dell was 989$CAD :D

Okay, I got the replacement monitor lickety-split. The light-bleed is much better, but there still seems to be a little bit. Is this just something I should live with or are there perfect versions out there?

I've still got a little bleed, but I never notice it these days unless the screen is black and the room is dark. My opinion...you'll adjust to it, but if you're the kind of person who gets bothered by slight imperfections, you might want to try another replacement. For me no stuck/dead pixels >>>> a little light bleed.

My 2005FPW has zero light bleed unless I'm just to stupid to notice what it is. This could be the case as even with examples shown on the web I have a hard time seeing it most of the time. On the widescreen gaming forums people have posted that they have gotten monitors with zero bleed. Since hopefully you will be using this for a few years at least I would take advantage of Dells policy until you were completely happy with it.

For anyone who interested here is a good article about 19 inch LCDs. It has a lot of info about the different panel types and refresh rates and contrast specs.

I just got the Dell 2405FPW and one of the many things I like is the ability to rotate the monitor. I can see almost two full pages at 100% in Words; at 79% I see two pages. I can browse the forum and look at so many posts at the same time that it's weird :) I have tried it for several hours and all I can say is that it is worth every dollars I have spent for it (989$CAD)
