That last one works. The Vamps still have an edge if the power is transfered since they will know who it went to (the original Mage can tell them). That means that if there is no kill the night of a transfer to you odds are pretty stinking good you should speak up about it. Wait to give the old Mage time to come forward and say they transfered their power and their previous scans if they do this they may not be a convert but just getting their scan knowledge out there. Question though, does the Mage pick his target or is it random? If random then I assume the Priest and vamps are not part of the pool of possible recipients and the new Mage does not then need to worry about being outed by a converted Mage. If chosen then what happens to the power if the Mage chooses a vamp or the Priest?

I think transfer should be random, since becoming the original mage is random.

This will prevent the scenario in which a Mage deliberately transfers his power to someone specific, gets converted, and kills his transfer target.

Eligible recipients should be any of the unconverted unpowered.

Just the endless procession of days, months, years... My teacher left me to my darkest lesson, that in the end, we are alone, and there is nothing but the cold, dark wasteland of eternity.

Come out come out where ever you are
"Where are you off to?"
"I don't know," Snufkin replied.
The door shut again and Snufkin entered his forest, with a hundred miles of silence ahead of him.

I'm off to bed but this post is a reminder to look back on what Remus was talking about with the PM'ing thing.

Dear future Austin, please reread what Remus said about PM's; he put your name in the post to remind you to reread. You were wondering about his reasoning and if there could be a hidden agenda along the lines of vamps and PM's and trust built and conversions.

Of course there will be no death tonight and there will be a conversion anyway. The vamps cannot risk giving up their elder by being over-protective of him tomorrow if someone picks up his scent. Well make that vamp.

Okay, off to night night.

So you are a replicant?

I agree with Grund about the transfer. Random works better. The odds of the Mage getting converted the night he transfers is very very small but they would completely win it for the vamps. As it is they would still get a huge boost as they would know the transfer had been done and only 1 other player would know that since the old mage/new vamp would be unlikely to out himself at that point.

He put your name in the post because taking up your agrument to that effect got him lynched in the last game and he wanted to be upfront about not thinking it a good idea in this game.

Would it be bad to say the "the coversion" is actually the very very very first thing to occur in the morning?
Good solution!

So then:
  • The Mage may do one of these: See, PM, or Transfer.
  • Transfer is a one-time deal that only the original Mage can do.
  • The Mage loses his powers-- all of them-- if converted.
  • Nothing the Mage was trying to do on the night he's converted is canceled. This means that a transfer on the night of conversion will succeed.
AND

The order of events is
  1. Mage scan or pm or transfer power
  2. Priest protects
  3. Vampire kill/make a childer
Much simpler, for tru1cy and everyone else.

Fine with me. Will update the rules.

Yep, I have moved about 6 times since then but the username just stuck.

Are the vamps actually pming all this time coming up with strategy or are they just busy. I would think they would want to get their first kill or conversion in and get the game going.

there's no point to debating the meta timeline.

for one it messes with roleplay.

for two a mod (tru1cy) in this case, can intentionally delay posting to obfuscate "when" he received PMs.

and C: more than one person can be late in posting, so it can just as easily be used to frame an innocent.

I would imagine that once a conversion had taken place the vampires would desire time to chit chat first... not sure that's what the rules intended, but that's my guess.

obviously the priest cannot risk protecting another beyond himself.

I think the Vamps' conversion (assuming it is indeed tonight) occurs as the first act of the morning, so it's not the conversion and subsiquent chit-chat with the new-vamp... As it's been said - the delay can also be just tru1cy (on purpose or not), and not any of the players (kindred or kine).
