Re: Shudder streaming
I watched The Devil's Bath last night and whew, that's an exercise in utter despair. It's incredibly slow historical folk horror, so if that's not your thing then you probably won't enjoy it. However, it has some really difficult and intense scenes that really push the edge and made it worth the slog for me.

Stephen King offers praise for this, too:

The Adam's family (the filmmaking family behind The Deeper You Dig and Hellbender) just threw out a new film on Shudder that's being called a creature feature. Hell Hole looks like a fun Friday night monster movie.

I've interviewed Tobey and John on a couple of occasions. They are super nice folks and extremely talented. Even though they are super low-budget indie filmmakers, they are wildly ambitious and find really creative ways to do a lot with very little. Can't wait to check this one out!hepcat wrote:The Adam's family (the filmmaking family behind The Deeper You Dig and Hellbender) just threw out a new film on Shudder that's being called a creature feature

Daddy’s Head
Trailer ticks quite a few creepy boxes, so color me intrigued. It looks like it’s debuting Oct. 11th on Shudder, from what the release info indicates.

Daddy’s Head is well worth a watch. It’s a creature feature with a truly creepy creature, a fantastic performance from the young lead, and an ending that’s surprisingly poignant.
I watched another Shudder film with an even higher critical rating the night before, Oddity. And while I wholeheartedly recommend that one as well, I think Daddy’s Head did more with less.

I love that Barbara Crampton is making all these movies the last few years. She's one of my favorites. Also, she apparently never ages.

Definitely putting this one on my watch list.
Mads I'm still still trying to figure out whether or not I should watch it. It's getting good reviews. But it just seems so chaotic.

I think it's been proven time and time again that you and I are polar opposites when it comes to movies. Why you would think I would suddenly start liking stuff you would is beyond me.

I don't think I've ever recommended an Underworld, Fast and the Furious or Transformers movie.
Have you tried checking Daehawk's recommendations? You might find them more useful.

I think we are on more similar ground on those types of movies.
But your horror recommendations?
Yeah......
But what the hell is wrong with the Underworld movies??

Re: Shudder streaming
I'm pretty sure we have nothing in common across any genre.
As a general rule of thumb, take any of my recommendations with the caveat of "excluding Stimpy".

We like them for different reasons, I'm guessing. Accidents do happen from time to time.

I liked Daddy's Head quite a bit. It's a very slow burn, but ultra creepy. And I was totally not Venmoed $20 by hepcat to say that.

It was 15 and a photo of me in a speedo and a giant novelty cowboy hat.
I loved the ending of Daddy's Head. It was poignant and somewhat tragic. I almost felt sorry for the "monster". That was what elevated it above the standard creature feature.

You two are the ones that have me watching things I never would have seen before. Hepcat had mentioned tubi and when I installed the app I see they have a category called Italian horror and Giallo. So many 1970’s foreign horror movies to watch.

Re: Shudder streaming
I’m not a big fan of Giallo. But I can certainly understand why others love it so much. For me, I think they just don’t age well. But again, that’s just me.
I will say that everyone should watch Lucio Fulci’s New York Ripper because it’s the only slasher film I can think of in which the killer sounds like Donald Duck.
I kid you not.
Also, don’t forget this Friday night is Joe Bob’s Halloween special. 8pm central.

I just watched New York Ripper for the first time a few days ago. It's a completely ridiculous premise but by the end it somehow all works. I really enjoyed it. I like giallo but I'm a big fan of pretty much all 70s and Italian horror.

Re: Shudder streaming
Azrael went up Friday night. I watched it last night.
It's an interesting exercise in that there is NO dialogue beyond a brief scene of someone speaking in what sounds like a made up language.
Thankfully, the film isn't trying to be a grueling art house extravaganza lasting 3 hours or so. It knows what it wants to be and it doesn't waste any time getting there. Clicking in at a brisk 85 minutes, it gives us a heroine (maybe), villains (maybe) and some monsters (absolutely) in the woods. It drops us in the middle of this and then just runs with the ball for the entirety of the film.
It's not great, but I thought it was a fun action/horror film. I generally agree with the RT scores which put it around 70 percent for both critics and audiences.

Coming December 1st to Shudder: The Primevals.
A cheesy horror/sci fi/comedy flick from Full Moon that looks like a throwback to the 80s? AND it's stop motion animation? I'm in!

Re: Shudder streaming
I had a very surreal Chris Jericho experience at a horror con one time when my friend went missing at the bar. I ducked through the crowd and went into a back room thinking he might be waiting in line for the bathroom and found an entire separate bar. There was my friend sitting at a table shooting the shit with Chris Jericho and David Howard Thornton. So I sat down and talked John Carpenter's "The Thing" with Chris Jericho and Art the Clown for a half hour.
He's a nice enough guy but very "celebrity." He always had an entourage of bodyguards with him and kind of walked around like he was the shit.

I really don’t usually like professional wrestlers because I don’t like professional wrestling. But I will admit to finding Danhausen humorous.
