Crashes and Other Tragedies

This video contains at least one crash previously shown in Blackhawk's video but from a different perspective.

So we discovered, to our horror (and amusement), what happens when you drink while dancing.

And here's what made us need to drink so much to begin with.

Just a random slice from the middle of Subnautica Below Zero. Lots o' story and location spoilers. Part 2 later, once my Comcast upload speed works its way through the 19GB file.

Another Deep Rock Galactic video.
Nothing spectacular but I am enjoying the new smartgun I unlocked.
Also, we end the session with new hats! 🙂

I see most of you do your streaming on YouTube except for maybe Harkonis?

I will go through and follow each of you and check out your YouTube channels. I just looked Hark up on Twitch and followed him.

I have just started a Twitch channel myself after Mrs Duncan gave me some equipment as a surprise for Christmas. I'm just getting off the ground and trying to head towards affiliate. I'm embracing my old ass age with the name of the channel.

To be fair, neither Brian nor I actually stream. We record and upload. I'd consider streaming if I didn't have Comcast upload rates (they're technically there, but close enough that I haven't worked with it), and if I had a PC good enough to manage it while playing. At the same time, the way we play wouldn't really be conducive to engaging with the viewers (the four of us chatter constantly.)

Still, I've thought about giving it a whirl sometime when I have less other stuff going on.

I've given it some thought too. On the plus side, I am gaming all the time, mostly solo and would actually be willing to engage. On the down side, ummmm, I'm not sure why I'd do it. I would have to be pretty damn popular to replace my income, so it would just be for fun and maintaining all the extra equipment doesn't sound like fun. Who the hell wants to watch me play games? I would basically be CohhCarnage but less skilled.

Yeah, and I don't play in an entertaining way when I'm solo. I tend to go slowly, methodically. I pause and wander off regularly. I alt-tab out regularly.

If I did do it solo, it would just be for fun, not as a 'side gig.'

I've gone through and subbed to everyone here. I'll also do so on my non-gaming account.

Also, I'm going to go through and watch your World War Z videos. I've always considered getting it but haven't. Is it any good? I'll watch some tonight...

I could do a video of how to quickly get all the best items on Baldurs Gate 3, but I doubt my cheese ball tactics would be appreciated. I think the main thing is to edit out false starts, dead ends and dicking around with inventory.

I need to figure out how to edit clips from my stream to post on TikTok, which I am told is a good way to draw random viewers.

Game not supported. :( Is there an alternate method?

Ha ha nevermind. Alt-Z in game does it.

I subbed to all of you.
I have a channel with a friend of mine. It was mostly a podcast with some streams thrown in from time to time. We are on hiatus (since 2018) because real life.

Blackhawk, I am surprised you don't have any mini painting on your channel.

I've considered it - briefly - but the equipment and setup necessary to get useful closeups is more than I can manage right now, and I while I'm not an awful painter, I also don't think that there is a lot that I could put out that isn't already very well covered by some truly skilled painters out there.

You may be surprised how much you can buy things for nowadays.

Photo Studio Box for shooting small items with smartphone $17 (the whole thing is only like 9 inches cubed, comes with internal lighting)

All you need is one of those tiny small turn-tables so you get a slow 180 or 360.

Oh, I've got a light box. It's the hardware for shooting close up video while painting that's more of an issue. But again, my skill and knowledge are way below some of the other channels out there covering the same material.

I have, however, fiddled with the idea of capturing short videos of painted pieces instead of posting pictures.

It's been a while, but I wanted to get this one up. In The Hobbit there is this scene where Bilbo gets captured by trolls. The dwarves come looking for him, each one walking right into the trolls and getting captured, one by one. Not one wondered why the last one hadn't come back.

I always thought that was unbelievable. Until now.

A couple of short clips from Deep Rock Galactic:

The first one was me fumbling with the controls while tired, and seemingly making the mission unwinnable...

In this second one, Brian grapples up to get a pretty flower, and I am right there, being helpful.

And, as a bonus, I was cleaning out my folders this evening and discovered a bunch of files that had somehow gotten dumped in to a subfolder. They're older, and from a mix of games, but there were a few worth sharing.

We dusted off GTA online the other day to play some of the multiplayer modes that we never really messed with before. Here are some of the results, mostly shorter videos. We started off with one mode (Snipers vs Stunters) and ended up stuck on that mode for a while, so I edited those sessions together. It was the first time we'd played most of these.

I laughed till I cried at that 2nd to last video at the 0:40 mark. Someone parachute dived out of the parked chopper then runs into it and falls down and cant get up before the chopper explodes and kills them. Damn funny sequence of events.

I always loved playing that last type of game with the cars. We'd laugh till we cried on it too. My favorite was the cars on a little roof team matches.

Not when you were the one under the chopper! That was a glitch. It normally doesn't work that way. Normally you'd slide out from under it and stand up , but somehow the helicopter seemed to be registering as in motion, so it kept endlessly knocking me down (actually, normally it wouldn't have knocked me down in the first place.) We had a very limited window in which to extract the target, and I'd arrived without my gunner (she accidentally got into the wrong seat) which is why I kept ramming the other chopper - it would have been better to die and take away their hardware, putting us both on equal footing on a respawn, than to land and have to deal with their attack chopper on foot.

So when it kept knocking me down until it killed me while their chopper was trying to kill Bob (the guy I had to protect), I said a few unpleasant words.

There is also some general, pre-game fuckery going on for your viewing pleasure.

GTA physics are a fickle thing, I know, but I went through the video files and I definitely was not "three or four feet from you."

So, if you need me, I'll be over here, pouting in the corner about how "unfair" GTA physics are.

Yeah, you were absolutely on target, and your system registered it as a hit (which is why I went flying in yours.) Here was the moment queued up from both your perspective and mine:

I had to be one of two things: either a hitbox issue (maybe cars don't register hits against heads), or else - and this is much more likely - a sync issue. It was predicting where we both were, but the actual physical locations were off by whatever your ping plus my ping was. That's why it showed differently on yours and mine.

fired up Deep Rock for the first time in a long time and found it quite fun even solo. Like most games of this type though, random people are just awful to play with. Will be doing some Chaos Gate over the next week, but my real excitement is for Evil Dead: The Game next week. Launches the 13th and my time in the beta has me super excited for this at launch. Hoping it can make it as a game though. Asym games scare me since they tend to do horribly overall since people are terrible at judging balance in them and tend to complain about the wrong things overall. Evil Dead at it's core is similar to Evolve in many ways and likely to hit the same general issues with regard to playerbase. People will think it's too evil balanced at launch and hopefully they don't cater too much to that. In Evolve the dev nerfing monster early led to a horrible experience as the monster once players learned to work as a team. It is way easier to work as a team when solo (duh!) than when you have to actually coordinate with 3 other people.

At any rate, I look forward to being able to stream on multiple platforms if the exclusivity contract with twitch gets relaxed for me.

BH, don't be afraid to stream even slow turn based games. You'd be amazed how much people can game vicariously through you while they are supposed to do other things ;) I've had decent success the last few weeks with slow playing Solasta and King Arthur on stream
