90% of the panic over "depopulation" is about white Western populations. More generous immigration solves most of the projected problems, but it would have the effect of making America and Europe somewhat less pale.

Science fiction from the 60's often speak about the outrageous over population of Earth at 6 billion people. Which I find fascinating.
TBH, the SF was based on food production issues, which managed to get dramatically better in the 60s, but famine had been on the increase.

Most of the 8 billion people alive today enjoy a higher standard of living than did most of the 3 billion alive in 1960. The poverty and food shortages that still plague so many today have social/political/religious origins, rather than real resource scarcity.

I'm not arguing in favor of ever-increasing population, btw.

Per the article, we also have some other associated issues with how food production changed. Specifically, obesity and nutrition issues. (as well as the ones you mentioned).
