Depends if the school or the vendor had any kind of insurance and/or whether they're going to fight for a refund.

In the old days, prior to 2016, a crisis like this would be where a President rises to the occasion and impresses people with decisiveness, strength, and resolve. He might not make the right decision, but by golly he doesn't waste time doing nothing! If the President doesn't rise to the occasion, no re-election for him.

Now? I'm not so sure. There is a ton of "This is China's fault" I'm hearing. That we still aren't testing enough people is not the point to them, we shouldn't have to do anything, but because China screwed up we have to clean up the mess. That worries me. He might be able to get a lot of mileage off that by the election.

Of course the real pain and suffering in this country hasn't started yet, so we'll see if that changes or not.

You're expecting a measured and logical response from voters whose own reaction to a crisis is to hoard toilet paper and treat hand sanitizer as a panacea.

It'll come down to the latest meme before the election. A case of whoever scores last wins.

I dunno, it's certainly possible that Trump's Sgt. Schultz response to him being exposed to an infected Brazilian could make it a moot point.

I think we now know the reason for the delay. He was going to wing it and they pushed a script on him. He is mostly staying on the page.

Thanks Google for developing a web page quickly....unlike web sites of the past. I literally snorted up water.

Five million tests available in a month. He doubts we'll need anything close to that.

Yeah he literally marched up a ton of corporations that they've drafted into service. It isn't the worst idea if they don't fuck it up. It gets dollars flowing to them and keeps folks employed. It is all being slapped together with duct tape so who knows if it'll work well.

(All paraphrased)

Question: Why did you close the pandemic office?

Trump: That's a nasty question but I didn't do that. This administration did it. I don't know anything about it.

Here is another take on it.

https://twitter.com/jdawsey1/status/1238562103302160386
"It's a nasty question," Trump says to @Yamiche, when she asks if he takes responsibility for cutting the pandemic office after taking office. POTUS says he doesn't know anything about it.

Trump: We are working on a schedule for me to get tested...right after my taxes are released.

So the Rose Garden thing was basically a parade of CEOs praising Trump, clearly designed to help the stock market (which it did).

The rest was gaslighting about how Trump's response to the pandemic has been the best in the world, especially hamstrung as he has been by the terrible legacy of Barack Obama.

Here's the quote of the day:

https://twitter.com/Amy_Siskind/status/ ... 46561?s=20
“No, I don’t take responsibility at all....”

Hopefully that quote is spearheading multiple campaign ads from now until November.

It's not unbelievable (because of course it's not his fault), but beyond contemptible.

I was wondering when this was going to start:
Louisiana will postpone its presidential primaries set for next month, becoming the first state to take the step as fears about the coronavirus outbreak spread.

The state will push its presidential nominating contests back to June 20 from the planned date of April 4, Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin announced Friday. It has also delayed its municipal elections until July 25.

“We want to protect the health and safety of all Louisianans by doing our part to prevent the spread of this highly infectious disease,” Ardoin told reporters.
If only there was another way to handle this. I'm sure I'll think of it later.

I watched it and thought he looked worse than he sounded, and he didn't sound good. I half expected him to lead off with "I have been diagnosed with...', that would have been a memorable moment.

He's not up to the task of leading in difficult times. We have many known cases here, plus who knows how many undetected cases, but he's happy to point out he restricted travel from Europe and he still doesn't see the need for that many tests? He might as well have just said "People are getting infected, what more do you need to know?"

He actually said that the Europe restrictions have done an incredible amount of good.

They're not in place yet. Their only effect so far has been to tank the markets upon announcement.

We've experienced parts of this before, just never all at once.

As others noted, it's like the Spanish flu of 1918 and the stock market crash of 1929 at the same time, but overseen by Harding's total incompetence plus Nixon's pettiness and paranoia.

Either answer is bad. If he knew, he was responsible. If he didn't know, he's out of touch and dangerously ignorant.

As always, there's a Trump tweet for everything:
