Watched a YT video from a girl talking about replaying Half Life 2 in the fall around Halloween. She said it's because the game is set in fall with the falling colorful leaves and such and that the Ravenholm map was spooky Halloween'ish. I can agree with that. It's been a few years now since I last replayed Half Life 2 and eps 1 & 2 might be time to go back for another ride.

EDIT: Heres her video...

We Harvest Shadows. A first person survival game with horror elements. The preview I read talked a lot about stardew valley, so I thought it was an overhead view like stardew or graveyard keeper, but it's not. Not sure why the talk about stardew except that you are restoring an old farm. How you do it is totally different though. There's a demo if you want to check it out.

Got enough videos all the way through end of November of Cold Waters, WRC5, and Need for Speed: The Run.

Will probably start on Crash Time Undercover, finish the Cold Waters South China Sea 2000 Campaign (should be only 2 missions left, so one more episode), then continue WRC5 career (just finished WRC2, so graduated to WRC R1)

EDIT: CW campaign is done. And final episode edited, uploaded and scheduled. Maybe I should start on UBoat instead?

My son was looking through my friends list on Steam. He was shocked at the number of games a certain non-regular OOer had.

I looked - this person had ~2700 games. I chuckled and told him to look up JetFred's profile. He's still in a coma.

I just got to group up and play with my real life buddy Ive known and PC gamed with since 1994. He gave up gaming around 2012 to do real life stuff like buying a fishing boat and going fishing and a motorcycle to ride all over the states. Now he is around 57 and slowing down. health problems but he still works 10 hours a day. But he is back to gaming some this year and this is the first time he grouped with me. Got right back into the groove easy and we ran SWTOR heroics. Was fun like the old days. Had missed gaming with him for these 12 years.

EDIT: It struck me we've been friend and gamers since I was 25 and him 27. Thats 30 years ago!! Time it doe'th fly.

Three times this year I've discovered that I was playing something again that I had played in roughly the same timeframe a year or two ago.

February 2023: Project Zomboid, February 2024: Project Zomboid
August 2022: Valheim, August 2024: Valheim

This week I started playing No Man's Sky, because I felt like a space adventure and wanted to see how the new content looked. I fired up a new character, deciding that I'd rather start from scratch because I hadn't gotten very far on my last pass.

On 9/13 I loaded the game for the first time with my new character deliberately, not using the "Continue" feature. That flashed my current playtime and last saves in front of me.

9/13/2021: 16 hours in No Man's Sky
9/13/2024: 14 hours in No Man's Sky

How the @#%! am I so consistent without being aware of it??

On the plus side, I've been having more fun with No Man's Sky than I did before. A LOT of the planetary content feels copy-pasted, but I keep finding enough new and interesting things that it's got me engaged. As an example, I'm currently flying around in a Sentinel fighter with nearly max cargo and equipment slots. All I had to do was land on a corrupted planet and fight a horde of corrupted Sentinels to get the parts I needed to fix it. I'm also toting around a decent Capital ship with 24 Inventory slots and all the trappings for a decent base on it - so I can actually bring my base with me, not just teleport back and forth to planets I've set up outposts on.

The Crew 2 is currently at $1 or a little more than that depending on the exchange rate. They're taking the game offline, but they're making it playable offline unlike most online service-based games. So, at that price, still quite a steal. Standard edition.

Also available at those prices on console.

Same. And because I've had Ara sitting in my cart for quite some time while I hemmed and hawed over whether to pick it up at launch, I "accidentally" bought that as well.

I went back and played through Control this week. It’s one that I tried previously but it didn’t have difficulty settings on release and was way too hard for me. They’ve since patched in a bunch of difficulty options, so I could tone it down and actually enjoy the insanity.

And man, what an absolute mindfuck of a game that is. The twist and turns it takes are nutty and the digital acting is just superb. Wasn’t crazy about the abrupt ending, but getting to it was such a treat.

When someone leaves a user review for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II where they can't get through the first sentence without referring to the protagonist as a "b*tch", I believe I fully understand why they gave the game a score of 0/10 without needing to read the rest of the review. :coffee:

Ludicrous. I wouldn't expect him to be a "verified buyer".

The first Senua was really impressive in terms of what they tried to convey. I didn't get too far into it, but it was better than I expected.

I've been seeing some very postive chatter about UFO 50, a collection of 50 retro games. The concept seems to be that it's a compilation of games for a fictional 1980s-era console.

continuing this thread from "Amazon Prime Gaming free games" thread:

for those who don't know, Legacy Games is kinda like a new Big Fish Games - publisher/reseller of lots o casual type titles cranked out by the petabyte. Amazon Prime Gaming gives away a fair number of their titles every month, so i decided to finally try one, but to make it interesting, i would get it running on Linux instead of Windows.

i admit going to maybe too much trouble getting I Love Finding Cats and Pups [COLLECTOR'S EDITION] to run, but i was determined to learn and find out - the Legacy Games Launcher that someone hacked together for Lutris (as a learning project!) doesn't actually download any game from the site - you have to view the log file to get the URL for the executable, then download manually and run the executable in WiNE (the executable has to manually added as well, since Lutris errored out at the very end).

this is a pretty bog-standard hidden object title (with bonus puzzle rounds of various kinds) thrown together in Unity. i played one screen the night i finally got it working and was like 'ok, did it'.... then the next night i burned through half the puzzles/scenes in the game over the course of a couple hours. <emoji_shrug>

oh yeah and it hard crashed a few times when i tried to use the touch screen on my laptop for one of the puzzles, taking the _entire_ desktop environment with it...

I love the old Big Fish casual-type games. I'm currently running through the entire 12 Labours of Hercules series on Steam. They are time management games where you're running around clearing roads and collecting resources. Normal mode is pretty easy, but Expert is quite challenging. I think there are at least 14 of them in the series so far, and I'm up to number 8.

i have been trying some of the titles from Rainbow Train (Polish indie developer Maciej Targoni) - Hook, Klocki and Up Left Out, to start. they're all minimal puzzlers, and pretty short at 50 levels each. they never get very difficult, but they're all pretty satisfying to play - e.g. Hook (and Hook 2) mimic lock-picking in a way, and that scratches a particular itch. what i think the developer has mastered is a truly gradual ramp-up in difficulty that does not require any manual or instructions to proceed. they would be perfect on tablet. i believe these would make excellent intros to puzzle gaming for beginning or non-gamers.

11 Episodes into U-boat campaign on "Entertaining Difficulty" (12%), just did the "lost U-boat" mission.

Finished Crash Time Undercover, all missions. Divided up into 16 episodes, each with about 4 missions each. So about 60+ missions total, half are circuit races, half are "other" missions.

WRC5's WRC career continues. Just finished 5th rally (of a 13 rally WRC 2015 season), still winning. :)

Debating on what to start next. Naval War Arctic Circle, Sub Command (oldie), B-17 Flying Fortress (probably the classic as Redux is still being worked on)

Similar, but not exactly the same. I think it's supposed to have new features. I was going to give it a try, but my tablet is too old, and unsupported. It does run on my phone, but that is way too small. :D

Fallout Shelter was released in June 2015 as part of the build-up to the release of Fallout 4 in November 2015. In a better world than this one I'd be hopeful that Elder Scrolls Castles was similarly related to imminent Elder Scrolls 6 news, but I'm pretty sure that is still several years out.
