Neighbor's dog is barking :?: It's odd to hear the pup. The noise doesn't bother me even though it's 11:30pm. Actually went to the window for a spell to see if Lassie was trying to tell me something. Think the neighbors are away on a honeymoon so the house is master free.

The barking has stopped. Hoping the pooch just saw another animal in the woods.

I've passed a major milestone in my life... my car just passed 30k miles and I am not actively shopping for a new one! You may not find this impressive in the least, but you need to understand my history. I bought my first car 21 years ago and have bought ~14 since then. This isn't the longest I have driven a specific car, I still have 6 months to match that milestone, but it's the longest without shopping for something new. I think I decided I wanted a 2005 Mustang sometime in 2003 and I had to wait a long time for one to show up at the dealership.

Trying to catch a nap between morning conference calls, and I get the squirrel version of West Side Story on the roof over my head.

I just spilled red soda all over one side of my desk. Luckily, it was not the side of the desk with the $10,000 piece of military hardware sitting on it.

Why do you have a toilet seat on your desk?

Tumblr is blocked at work. I'm sure your blank image placeholder was very scathing, though. ;)

I know people who caption every single image on their tumblr like that for the visually impaired, people surfing on devices with no graphics capacity, etc.

It's a bit odd, but I see the usefulness also.

One of my friends just had the police pay him a visit as a suspect for being the I-96 shooter. They received a tip. Crazy, man. Though, I must admit that if the sketch artist picture was of a guy with a rounder face and you squinted a lot, you could see the resemblance.

Just saw an interesting registration bot filter. "Can you add? What is four plus ten" and it had an incorrect number in the space at the right to imply you needed to type in 14 to register.

Taking the sham. Go up front to wash my coffee cup and find out "my department" went home an hour ago. Exile sucks. At least I can listen to my music at an appropriate volume.

Well, maybe if you knock off calling soda "pop", maybe you wouldn't have these problems. :?

US Air Force Academy brawl injures 23; 1 bitten.
A U.S. Air Force commander says 23 cadets were injured in a brawl during an unofficial ritual marking the first snowfall of the season.
...
The email was provided to The Associated Press and other media outlets Wednesday.
Academy spokesman John Bryant says the email is authentic. He says the academy will release a statement later Wednesday.
First Shirt, First Snow
After first decent snow storm of the year (yes we get snow here in the middle of October) the four degrees in each squadron attempts to throw their First Sergeant, First Shirt is their nickname, into the snow while the upperclassmen protect him. This creates a 3:1 ratio of upperclassmen to four degrees, making it very difficult for the freshman to get the First Shirt. Basically, it turns into a huge hall brawl.
Looks like that tradition may be heading the way of the dodo.

My first son, whom I haven't seen in a great many years, but who I've finally gotten back into contact with thanks to Facebook is apparently in jail for armed robbery of a CVS last week, to be stacked with outstanding burglary and theft charges.

So much for that.

That has to be hard. I'm sorry you, much less any father, would have to go through that.

On the way to work today, a white pickup truck comes off a bridge with his flashers going and stops with a single tire over the yellow lines and at a slight angle. I slow down to a crawl and stop - it looks like he's intending to block traffic, sort of - but after 30 seconds he doesn't get out of his truck and isn't moving and nothing is happening. I slowly crawl past him and as I do, he's mouthing in big animated motions "STOP STOP STOP"... so I push in the clutch and let the car roll backwards a ways and wait. Another minute passes and finally a large semi crosses the bridge, taking up both lanes.

If you need to block traffic, you need to do it in a way that leaves no question that you're blocking traffic and not just being a friggin' moron.

I sometimes wonder how I'd react to discovering one of my children was involved in real criminal activity (not just mischief) and I can't fathom it. They're only 4 and 1.5 but they have lives full of good and bad choices to make ahead of them.

This is not an experience I envy. I'm sorry to hear you have to go through it.

One of these mornings, I'm just going to say "screw it," and use the Cheez-Its in place of cereal and drown them in a bowl of milk.

Salty simulated cheese breakfast cereal doesn't sound so good to me. Maybe dip them in egg yolks or mix them in your hash browns or something.

Dude gets to do work around the house between conference calls and presumably gets paid for it. That's an insane amount of win.

Also, what's the point of the caplet shaped medications? It's like russian roulette of the medical world - will it go down straight? Or will it turn sideways and turn Bakhtosh into a coughing, sputtering fool? Let's find out...
