The only thing I ever liked about Iron Maiden was their album cover arts. So cool.

since i never listened to them before, i'm working my way through Iron Maiden's discography (chronologically). all will be listened to on CDs checked out from the local library! currently at 1983 - i'll probably stop when i get to the 90s, unless there're any 'must hears' after that point.
Iron Maiden (1980) Killers (1981) The Number of the Beast (1982) Piece of Mind (1983)
Powerslave (1984)
Somewhere in Time (1986)
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (1988)i
EDIT: "In a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime when dinosaurs walked the eeeeaaaaaaaaaaarth!" lol
Maiden is one of my all time favorite bands. I never get sick of them.
The lyrics in "quest for fire" make no f-ing sense in a time scale, but what other band could do " To tame a land?" A song about "Dune!"
Also, "Rime of the ancient mariner" helped me get through the poem in high school. Plus it kicks ass!

I’ve never been a big Maiden fan, but do listen to their Greatest Hits album quite a bit with the kids.
We can all do a mean car version of “2 Minutes to Midnight” when all the windows are down.

Wilderun's 2015 sophomore album "Sleep at the Edge of the Earth" is in my top 5 albums of all time. It's an absolutely incredible mix of folk, prog, melodeath, symphonic, and power metal. If you haven't listened to it already, I would highly recommend it. Think Opeth meets Turisas by way of Kamelot with some Bathory sprinkled in. My favorite track:
They just released the first track from their upcoming album "Veil of Imagination", due out Nov 1. It's my most anticipated album of 2019, and this ]new single certainly doesn't disappoint. As always, Dan Swano's production work has made this thing sound amazing.
I cannot wait for this one.

Been using Youtube as a mixer of sorts, and it's helped me to come appreciate bands I never really thought twice about or actively avoided back in the day. Case in point: Hole
I know her legacy is tied to Kurt's forever, but listening to this song (and others from around the same time), I do think she (and they) were likely underrated. Maybe it's Billy Corgan's influence, but it's much better than I remember it being 20+ years ago.

I hate how much I like some Hole songs because I hate Courtney so much.
You know she paid El Duce to kill him, right?

1998 was a good year.
Dont forget the bassist Kristen Pfaff died at 27 also in 1994 and dated Kurt.

i wrote off Hole after they went major label and can barely remember anything they did after 1993, but i do like that Fleetwood Mac cover they did for the Crow 2 soundtrack.

But who paid the train that killed him?
The timing of all that is very strange and I guess the universe works in weird ways. Speaking of weird ways, please do enjoy a rendition of Jane Says that I never heard or saw before. Filmed during that very brief period of time when Duff McKagen was playing with them (~5 months!)

Nick Broomfield's Kurt and Courtney was insane. I never in a million years thought I'd see anyone from the Mentors on a movie screen. Although I should have suspected it would only happen in the context it did.

DragonForce released a new album last week, Extreme Power Metal (fitting title for that band).
On top of a cover of "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic, they wrote a Starship Troopers flavored song. Take a listen:

Two songs Ive been listening to tonight. Both underrated.
First is Move Along. Its from the movie She's the Man that me and my wife loved a lot.
The other was used in the tv commercials for Star Trek Enterprise before it came out.

Thanks for posting "Malibu." I used to not like that song, either, but now I realize it's quite good.
I've always loved "Violet," though, and recently discovered that "Dying" is great, too.
As for what I'm listening to, I've been obsessed with Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" lately. I gravitate to the scary parts of it. Someday I'm going to watch all of OrchestrationOnline's analyses of it.

Right? For me, it's the backing vocals and when the second guitar whips in. I've tried watching a few live performances and that second guitar is missing and I think the song is diminished without out. Getting old is fun!

I guess we might as well keep hate watching. The choruses in this song STILL go through my head 20 years later. Who hasn't waked up in their makeup?

I remember people, places and such with music. My sister finds it weird that I can remember stuff so clearly from decades ago that were not big events. Heard this song on the highway headed home from the mall with my wife back in the day. Found it catchy. Didn't like Love though as a person.

Back in the day, a friend and I mocked Courtney Love* for her whiny singing and silly lyrics on "Doll Parts."
*Not to her face. We didn't want her to murder us like she murdered Kurt Cobain.
More recently, another friend turned me on to TheFatRat. Kinda hard to describe, covers a bunch of electronic genres like dubstep and chiptune. It's called "glitch-hop." Here's a pretty good collab he did with Anjulie. The image reminds me of the opening screen of Xenoblade Chronicles.

can't stand top-40-styled EDM. boring pop-style song structures and vocals are almost always annoying
lol
how about the bands that go 'HEY' (circa 2010-2013)
EDIT: dammit i have some generic 'wah-aheheh-oh-ah-waah-ahahaeh-oh-ah' chorus stuck in my head now

A YouTube rabbit hole led me to this. Doubt I've listened to Lords of Acid in 20+ years.
I remember putting this on at parties in college and watching the horrified and/or amused looks from everyone at the opening line. (NSFW lyrics, btw).

Picked up the remaster of Dinosaur Jr's Where you Been (1993) and there's some additional tracks provided on a bonus CD (yes I have the physical media version, like an old person).
As part of that additional stuff, is a song blowing my mind. It's a song I completely forgot about - from the 1993 Judgement Night movie soundtrack:
This sounds like it could have been released last week....and it's 26 years old. I remember the Judgement Night soundtrack being groundbreaking, but somehow completely forgot about this song. I mean..damn.

Oh man, what an awesome soundtrack that was. I can still remember the lyrics for nearly all the songs, both the mellow tunes:
And the rippers:
(Mike Patton is in rare form on this one)

Peaker Blinders on Netflix has led me to my latest obsession, Hotel Lux.
It's like Ian Drury crossed with Lou Reed...and then beaten senseless by Bob Dylan.

Really looking forward to Greg Mackintosh's (Paradise Lost, Vallenfyre) new project, Strigoi. Sounds like a more grimy and brutal version of Vallenfyre, which I really didn't think possible.

listening to the new Pixies album - it sounds like a cross between a Frank Black solo album and an approximation of an idea of what Pixies 'should' sound like. also, no Kim Deal.

I've recently become obsessed with Kim Deal, so that's unfortunate. I do think she was a key element in The Pixies, fwiw.
I had no idea Mark Lanegan had another album in the works (though I should not have been surprised). Apparently released today, but there was a single back in August.
Easily the most prolific artist from the "grunge" era, imho and probably one of the most underappreciated.
