For the uninitiated, ‘Governor Moonbeam’ became Mr. Brown’s intractable sobriquet, dating back to his days as governor between 1975 and 1983, when his state led the nation in pretty much everything — its economy, environmental awareness and, yes, class-A eccentrics.

The nickname was coined by Mike Royko, the famed Chicago columnist, who in 1976 said that Mr. Brown appeared to be attracting “the moonbeam vote,” which in Chicago political parlance meant young, idealistic and nontraditional.
Also, he's 79.
He's a completely different Governor now. Fixed CA's budget issues (including getting a rainy day fund established out of the Dem Legislature, which loves to spend money for pet projects). Is investing in infrastructure wisely, has done a great job being a forceful force for the environment while still being mindful of Farming interests, etc.

If he weren't 79, he'd be a great candidate - one who is dealing quite well with the 21st Century economy, and is very forward thinking in his policy, but not to the detriment of the needs of everyone in the state (particularly not just Democrats).

With regards to Pelosi, I disagree. While I do think she should have been readying someone to replace her a while ago, given her age and how long she's been in the position, my understanding is that she's very good at the job, that she's good at maintaining party discipline and keeping the caucus in line. Given the Trump administration, and that Republicans hold most of the cards, I'm not sure now is the time to replace someone like that that can maintain Democratic unity and be the best chance at slowing or blocking Republican legislative efforts.

Pelosi herds the cats way better than most, and it's an extremely tough position. There's a reason McConnell has kept his job despite being one of the vilest human beings alive.

She's far from perfect, but most of the Pelosi hate out there is just like the Clinton hate: ginned up by years of right-wing media and then over time bleeding into an unquestioned caricature.

It's weird that he didn't use "Crooked Hillary" but did go with "Crazy Bernie" but aside from that this is pretty much par for the course for Demented Donnie.

Or maybe it's his way of flipping the bird to everyone by obliquely pointing out that the DNC is to Hillary Clinton as Putinist Russia is to Donald Trump.

Hey everybody, look at me, I'm the President:
President Trump on Tuesday promoted Fox News host Eric Bolling's new book "The Swamp" by retweeting Bolling's tweet that says Trump has a copy.

"Good morning friends! "The Swamp" out today. President Trump has a copy... get yours here," Bolling's tweet said.
I didn't realize the President was in the position to endorse and/or promote products. Maybe this is the true solution to our budget crisis.

What Trump's closest advisors do with Charitable donations:
Documents obtained by the Guardian show Sekulow that month approved plans to push poor and jobless people to donate money to his Christian nonprofit, which since 2000 has steered more than $60m to Sekulow, his family and their businesses...

...In addition to using tens of millions of dollars in donations to pay Sekulow, his wife, his sons, his brother, his sister-in-law, his niece and nephew and their firms, Case has also been used to provide a series of unusual loans and property deals to the Sekulow family...

...For years, the nonprofits have made a notable amount of payments to Sekulow and his family, which were first reported by Law.com. Since 2000, a law firm co-owned by Sekulow, the Constitutional Litigation and Advocacy Group, has been paid more than $25m by the nonprofits for legal services. During the same period, Sekulow’s company Regency Productions, which produces his talk radio show, was paid $11.3m for production services.

Sekulow also personally received other compensation totalling $3.3m. Pam Sekulow, his wife, has been paid more than $1.2m in compensation for serving as treasurer and secretary of Case.

Sekulow’s brother, Gary, the chief operating officer of the nonprofits, has been paid $9.2m in salary and benefits by them since 2000. Gary Sekulow has stated in Internal Revenue Service (IRS) filings that he works 40 hours per week – the equivalent of a full-time job – for each of the nonprofits. Filers are told to specify if any of the hours were spent on work for “related organizations”. He does not.

Meanwhile, a company run by Gary’s wife, Kim Sekulow, has received $6.2m since 2000 in fees for media production services and for the lease of a private jet, which it owned jointly with Jay Sekulow’s company Regency Productions. The jet was made available for the use of Jay and Pam Sekulow, according to corporate filings...

...In another deal, Sekulow’s wife Pam, Case’s treasurer and secretary, bought a “retreat property” in North Carolina from Case in 1998 with help from a $245,000 loan out of the nonprofit’s funds. The Case board, controlled by her family, then decided to forgive $217,742 of what Pam owed and count this as compensation, the previously unreported accounts say.

Having taken control of the property, the Sekulows then remortgaged it at market value, and continue to own it today. Case said in the accounts that the house sale to Pam Sekulow “represented estimated fair market value”.

Case separately loaned Jay Sekulow $209,968 in 1999. Over the following years, the Case board voted to forgive $211,305 of the loan and interest payments – more than the original amount Sekulow had borrowed – and classify all this as compensation...

Some of Trump's golf courses display a framed TIME magazine cover featuring Trump.

It's fake.
The Time cover is a fake.

There was no March 1, 2009, issue of Time magazine. And there was no issue at all in 2009 that had Trump on the cover.

In fact, the cover on display at Trump’s clubs, observed recently by a reporter visiting one of the properties, contains several small but telling mistakes. Its red border is skinnier than that of a genuine Time cover, and, unlike the real thing, there is no thin white border next to the red. The Trump cover’s secondary headlines are stacked on the right side — on a real Time cover, they would go across the top.

And it has two exclamation points. Time headlines don’t yell.

“I can confirm that this is not a real TIME cover,” Kerri Chyka, a spokeswoman for Time Inc., wrote in an email to The Washington Post.

I know the fake TIME cover thing is of no great importance, but it's funny that it's something Trump cared enough about to make real. So far it's been spotted framed on the wall at at least seven Trump properties.

Someone cared enough about this to get it mocked up, framed, and distributed as part of the official decor.

The Time Magazine thing really is amazing. I wonder whether he ordered it himself, or whether it was done by some underling who (presumably correctly) anticipated that Trump would want him to do that.

I'm betting he'll eventually be on the cover of Time magazine, but likely not for the reason's he's hoping. And I also doubt it will be framed and distributed to his various real estate holdings.

I guess that's what gets me about this whole thing. Setting all politics aside, how could anyone seriously support this freak? Any one of his personality traits - the pathological lying, the womanizing, the narcissism, the childish tweets and outbursts - would be enough to turn me off.

I remember at the very start of the election when the GOP still had 10-12 candidates in the race and there was every likelihood I'd vote Republican, I told my stepdad that there was "no way in hell" I'd ever vote for Trump. To watch all my conservative friends fall into lockstep behind him and turn a blind eye to his numerous faults is pretty sickening.

Back to the Amazon Twitter rant, Fake News CNN ran a story on that. Apparently Trump is ranting about Amazon not paying "internet taxes" (no such thing), when in fact they now (and have been , for several years), collected sales tax in every state they have a physical presence.

So the President of the United States is attacking an American business using blatantly false, easily verifiable information, and the mainstream media is the one that's fake news.

Can I blame having to pay sales tax to Amazon on Trump? I know it's not true, but goddamn it I want to take that out on someone!

Stupid argument. The Democrats should start saying Trump wants citizens on Main Street to pay taxes on Amazon purchases so he can give tax breaks to Wall Street!
