Announcement from a former co-worker that she's about to be a grandmother. Wait, what? She was pretty close to me in age as I recall. Oh, she tagged the parents' profiles. Son's year of birth: 1995; Class of 2013 for him and the mother.

Politics and politicians truly are disgusting. Why we do not have laws against the type of blatant lying they do in ads while we do have laws against libel and slander baffles me. The level of deceit practiced by political ads and politicians pushing a cause is really stomach churning.

No. With the crap going on in Lansing right now I caught a commercial that was particularly offensive to me. The group supporting the right to work law is the same that opposed the amendment to put collective bargaining rights in the constitution. During the election they ran ads with actor portraying police/fireman/nurses/etc saying how they didn't want the amendment. Now they are running an ad in support of the right to work bill (which are not even going to be up for a vote at any point so I'm being subjected to their bullshit only so that they can deceive the public regarding what they are doing). The tag line of the ad runs as "protect collective bargaining". The bill has no direct impact on collective bargaining and running that ad is simply trying to trick those who see it into thinking it is a spin off of the attempted amendment rather than an attack on the ideas of the amendment.

Top that with Snyder having said multiple times that he had no interest in a right to work bill - until there was actually one proposed at which point he flipped entirely and said he would sign it as soon as it hit his desk. Since it was introduced by his party it hints heavily that he had that conversation behind closed doors many many times so has been bold faced lying to the public while plotting this.

If what they are doing is so wonderful for the state and the working class then why be so deceitful in the approach to doing it? They know they are trying to fuck the middle class right now. They just want to do it with our permission.

I had twins at 37, and they are 5 now. It was not easy, especially early on. Don't worry too much though, as hard as it is, I would not change a thing.

I still have a Hero card somewhere. I used to be pretty routine about giving blood until they refused to take it any more.

At least I don't get calls every six weeks reminding that I always give blood and the Red Cross is in particular need this time any more.

I'm a little skeeved that DTE knows what my electricity is being used on. I'm also wondering what's going in in my house that's increasing my usage so much. My habits aren't changing but I'm using 25% more electricity than I have in the past.

One of my favorite students came back this morning. She had been missing the past 6 days due to having day care issues for her daughter. She is still working on getting that settled down but we now have the school's resources (such as they are) working on it with her. Kid is a hard worker and very focused on trying to graduate and wanting to attend college. Tough road to do with a child but she is diligent with making up her work when she misses days and is a very smart kid so she can do it. So happy to see her back. Hopefully between her own efforts and ours we can find her reliable day care that she can afford.

Did you check for a hydroponic grow room in your basement or attic? Sometimes those things just happen.

If it weren't for company policy I'd apply to be care giver and medical user. As it goes, I will wait until recreational use is legal to take up that particular hobby.

Given the expansion of the... um... urban mentality and lifestyle... since 2007 and 2008 as well as the change in laws in 2010, I have grow stores and tattoo parlours as common as gas stations and fast food around my house. I think I can safely say my property value won't be returning to the six figures level any time soon.

Which makes me wonder what crime is like against legal (as far as the state is concerned) growers. I saw a piece on MSNBC a few years ago about legal pot communities and it was like the wild west out there because of the apparent street value of plants.

This version was Bear Creek Country's "Darn Good" Chili. It's 7 cups water, the mix, 6oz tomato paste. I added a pound of ground beef that I seasoned with some chili powder before adding it in.

I had five ladles of it with a full rack of crackers. The rest is in a covered glass mixing bowl in the fridge.

I used to be able to get the mix at my local grocer a few years back. This one (and the spare in the pantry) were acquired at a local dollar store.

I'm not sure what the price differential would have had to be for me to buy it in the store. My guess is that anything less than $5 I would have just bought it from Barnes & Noble. But I didn't even hesitate when I saw it was $10 cheaper.

That's the beauty of pistachios. They're self-limiting.

They're kind of like almonds, except that the limiter on almonds isn't the shells, it's that they're really not that good after a handful.

If it's the same price at amazon, I may just order it anyway so I don't have to carry it to the register and deal with that whole checking out process. Amazon even charges sales tax here so I don't even save that.

I have noticed that, as I get older, the checkers try to talk to me less. I guess I am starting to look surly enough that they feel it's best to leave me alone. My sheen of act civil to strangers is wearing off.
