On June 11, commercial lobster diver Michael Packàrd was nearly swallowed whole by a humpback whale off the coast of Provincetown, Massachusetts, reports Doug Fraser for the Cape Cod Times. The encounter only lasted about 30 seconds before the whale resurfaced and belched out Packàrd. Once back into the water, Packàrd's crewmates pulled him to safety and immediately transported him to Cape Cod Hospital, reports Rachel Treisman for NPR. Except for serious bruising and a dislocated knee, Packàrd escaped virtually unscathed.

Daniel Kraus released a book last year called "Whalefall" which is about a diver being swallowed by a sperm whale. It's pretty good.

A humpback whale mouthing a human is like a human mouthing somebody's sneaker and then spitting it out.
Ew, gross.
I first read that as "mounting" and was like...wut?
Either way, yeah, gross.

I’ve been hooked on Trash Theory and their musical deep dives into a wide range of bands, songs and styles. Their New British Canon series should be required viewing for anyone who grew up listening to music in the 80s.

I've messed with my head by watching YouTube at 2x speed. Now if I don't turn it to at least 1.5x speed the people sound like they are drunks trying to speak slowly so that no one notices they are drunk.

I typically listen to podcasts at 1.2-1.5x speed and have gotten so used to it that going back to 'normal' is pretty much intolerable. Other people hear me listening and often ask why they're talking so fast, but regular speed is painfully slow now.

Same. I listen to sci fi stories and I play them on 1.75 or 2.0 cause they seem wayyy too slow. After a few seconds they seem to be normal speed to me.

I have the opposite problem when watching YT game guide videos, especially if subtitles are disabled. Often they rush through explanations and I need to slow them down to catch everything.

I only watched a bit of the SNL 50th anniversary, but seeing Eddie Murphy pretending to be Tracy Morgan while yelling "I refuse to ingest 3 cheeses" will remain with me for years.

Its good seeing Eddie again. Missed his comedy and movies. He just disappeared one day it felt like to me. You couldn't throw a pebble in the 80s without hitting an Eddie Murphy something or other. Got old I guess. Had the money to retire I suppose.

Dolemite Is My Name was a nice reminder that Eddie can act when he wants to. But then he went back to some questionable material.

I’m not a huge fan of SNL, but this is still one of the best things they’ve done in years.

Woody is one of my all time favorite actors. I would have never thought that when I first started watching him on Cheers but he grew on me there and became probably the best character. After that my love of the guy just grew. He is awesome. I really hope for a Zombieland 3.

Ha! I just ordered a package of A5 for a PnP game that was created in Europe. They reformatted it for our gross paper size, but I figured I'd try to print it out as intended.

I loved this show and watched it all the time in the 1990s. Norm is 75. I didn't realize he was that old. I remember him younger with dark hair and in one of his red plaid shirts. I can hear his yankee accent still lol.
Well everything ends and i think it had a great run. Between it and This Old House I filled up on wonderful home building and repair shows.

I'm surprised he's that young. I was never a regular watcher but did catch both This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop at times while I was a grad student because they were pleasant background noise while I worked.

I have one of those and they're awesome. Mine is a double so you can make two sandwiches at once. I've never done a burger on it, but I make breakfast sandwiches all the time. Stick an English muffin on the bottom, throw an egg on top, a little cheese, some pre-cooked bacon, set it for 4 minutes and boom. Perfect breakfast sandwich.
The only downside is that you can easily burn yourself on them - there isn't really any safeguards against hitting your hand against one of those griddle plates, so you have to be super careful taking the sandwich out.

To me, that looks like a solution in need of a problem. I resist any unnecessary kitchen gadgets that want electricity and counter space, but having just became an air fryer convert my world is already upside down.

It actually eliminates having so use multiple appliances - don't need a pan for the egg, don't need a toaster for the English muffin, don't need a microwave for the bacon. Then you get the bonus of it cooking the egg perfectly in the perfect shape. Of course YMMV depending on how often you make breakfast sandwiches.
If you don't want to mess with that, I can also highly recommend the frozen bacon egg and cheese croissants from Costco - they come out great in the air fryer.

I already have a pan and toaster oven and the bacon reheats nicely in the pan with the egg. For that matter it's a cast iron pan used every day so for the most part I simply wipe it out after use which means there is no clean up.

QFT! Though they are a bit pricey. But soo... sooo... yummy.
We got an egg cooker that makes hardboiled, but can also make omelets. We find the mini-omelet options work great for breakfast sandwiches. However, we still use the toaster for the buns and the air fryer for the bacon. So definitely not one-stop shopping.
