Yep, that's me. I've been mistaken for the 'other Derek' before, but we're worlds apart.

I switched over to buying most of my music through iTunes 6 years ago. As a result, I really only listened to what I had purchased through there, and hadn't bothered to transfer over all the other music (i.e. burned CD's, Amazon/Bandcamp/other downloads, etc.) from my old system.
I finally got around to firing up the drive that had most of my video game soundtracks and all the previous music that I hadn't transferred over to my new PC. Imported just under 30,000 songs this morning.

Rancd has probably gotten the most consistent play in my rotation over the past decade. My kids know most of the songs by pure osmosis. They say they prefer the Interrupters but they always sing and hum Rancid.Smoove_B wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2019 12:09 pm

And it made me jump in the wayback machine and bust out Op Ivy today as well.

Got this song in my head and just keeps going round and round. These girls can dance that shuffle too. Especially that 3 group.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
This one's a bit of a cheat since it never existed. FJ0RDS were an amazing band from Wales in the UK, they released a few stand-alone tracks and a couple of EPs about five years ago, all of it brilliant, then they disappeared. I put all their stuff together in an "album" when it was pretty clear they weren't coming back. I probably got the graphics from their website which is gone now.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
My kids are always requesting "dance party" whenever daddy gains control of the remotes. The other night, for the first time I put on The Talking Heads (starting with Psycho Killer). My 3 year old daughter immediately began to do a David Byrne strut that was absolutely spot-on -- she never heard the song before but her performance was spot-on.
This is not the first time my kids have surprised me. A month or so ago I played "Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing -- they never heard that either and the two of them (boy is 6) did Patrick Swayze proud.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Not sure when I turned away from them. I have tons of their B Sides and singles and appearances on other material. Honey's Dead is the last album I remember clearly but I think I picked up Roller Coaster and Stoned and Dethroned after that but I couldn't tell you a single song off the later and the only stuff i can recall from the former had already been released on other works ("Tower of Song"). I think Automatic was the last work I truly loved.hitbyambulance wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2019 6:50 pm i was a JAMC fan until that album. lol maybe i should give it another go (didn't care for _Stoned & Dethroned_ or the new one that much either)

Abigail Williams - Like Carrion Birds
Obsessed with a few of these guys' tracks recently. Unfortunately I missed them in concert earlier this week.
This song is from their early, metalcore-ish symphonic black phase. I usually think of metalcore as being a dirty word, but really good metalcore elements can be pretty awesome.
The Departure
I'm a sucker for tempo switches and mid-range shrieks.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Decent band...terrible name.

It's a really good day for new metal. The new releases from Strigoi and Obsequiae that dropped today are both fantastic.
I love, love, love the harpsichord(?) bits on the Obsequiae albums. They're so beautiful.
I'm also a bit baffled as to why Greg Mackintosh killed Vallenfyre and started a new band though...Strigoi sounds exactly like Vallenfyre did. Not complaining, mind you, it just seems like an odd choice.
