Okefenokee Joe, an 11-and-a-half-foot alligator who is believed to have lived in a Georgia swamp since World War II, has died, officials said.Joe weighed in at more than 400 pounds and would have been considered a "dominant male in his day," the lab shared in a Facebook post last year.

If he lived in the Georgia swamp, why couldn't he snack on the governor? (too R&P?)

That was very unexpected. What a bummer. I wasn't a huge fan of some of his schtick, but he was definitely more hit than miss. And I generally appreciated what he was trying to do.

Well thats out of the blue. Norm. Wow. He was a unique comic sound to me. Can hear him quipping in my head. What will The Orville do without him?

One of my favorite Norm MacDonald clips. Edit: posted a better, longer clip but Youtube says negative. Here is the essence of it.

OMG, no - that's a big gut punch for me. This man had the ability to make me just lose it.
Weird, I was just doing a YouTube dive on a lot of his old jokes. (usually stuff with Letterman and Conan)...
What a bummer. Damn.
I JUST told my oldest kid his "Moth goes to a podiatrist" joke this morning. Wow.
Even when his stuff 'wasn't working', he made me giggle about it.... I don't know why, it was like he made me feel like laughing with him - if his material wasn't clicking for the audience.

One of my favorite things about Norm McDonald's humor was you were never quite sure if you were in on the joke or the butt of one.
I think it had something to do with that sly smirk.

I met him once, I always found him to be more likeable than his comedy, which often misfired (kind of like Seth MacFarlane). I was not aware he was ill.

Norm had an appreciation for Rodney Dangerfield and I watched a few Conan interviews where Norm paid tribute to Rodney’s material. Norm played with his audience, and enjoyed messing with his jokes while telling them.

Clive Sinclair, creator of the pocket calculator and the ZX Spectrum personal computer, has passed away at age 81.
Sinclair's daughter, Belinda Sinclair, announced the news earlier today, saying that Sinclair's passing came after a long battle with illness.
The ZX Spectrum was home to games like Lords of Midnight, Knight Lore, and Dizzy, whose developer Codemasters is still around today. Many game developers in the U.K grew up playing games on the Spectrum, and still have fond memories of games like the adventure titles produced by developers like Rochdale Balrog (AKA John Wilson, who passed away last year).

"I'm the operator with my pocket calculator"
R.I.P. Clive. You sure left your mark.
I really wanted to like Lords of Midnight, but that was a hard game to get into.

He was definitely a mighty quirky and highly influential fellow back in the early days of home computing.
BTW, I thoroughly recommend watching the terrific 2009 BBC docudrama Micro Men, which spotlights the rise of British home computing in the 1980s and the intense rivalry between Clive Sinclair and Chris Curry (played by Martin Freeman), co-founder of Acorn Computers and creator of the BBC Micro system. Looks like you can stream it for free, courtesy of Archive.org

The first computer our family had was a Timex Sinclair 1000 (basically a ZX-81 with NTSC output) with a whopping 2K of memory. Even with a crappy membrane keyboard, it's pretty easy to type enough to fill up 2K. We eventually got the expansion module for 16K. That was the start of my love of computers and computer gaming.

Played a lot of his work in the late 70s / early 80s. Xevious was one of my favorite arcade machines.
Hiroshi Ono joined Namco in 1979, and worked as a graphic designer for many classic titles including Xevious, Galaga, and Dig Dug. He left the company in 2013, and launched his own pixel art/product brand called Mr.Dotman. He is a renowned figure in the industry, and many fans refer to him as the "god of pixel art."

Tom Morey, the creator of the Boogie Board and an influential figure in the surfing world, has died due to complications from a stroke, according to his family. He was 86.
"It was Morey who introduced more human beings to the act of wave riding than any other single person in history," said Jim Kempton, president of the California Surf Museum. "That's quite an accomplishment if you think about it, millions and millions of people have ridden waves, and I would say that a huge number of them started out on his inventions."

Chris Ayres, perhaps best known as Frieza’s English language voice actor, has passed away. Besides the iconic Dragon Ball character, Ayres also voiced Kei Kurono in Gantz, and Shingen Takeda in Sengoku Basara. He was 56 years old.
Ayres took over the Frieza role in Dragon Ball Z Kai, and voiced the character in Dragon Ball Super, as well as in the feature anime films Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F and Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Ayres was a tremendous talent and did an excellent job with Frieza.

Aww. Sad news. I loved this guy and Tom Hanks in Bosom Buddies.
Peter Scolari, a veteran actor who rose to fame alongside Tom Hanks on "Bosom Buddies," died Friday morning.
Scolari had cancer and had been ill for two years, his manager Ellen Lubin Sanitsky told CNN. He was 66.
Scolari appeared in numerous films and television series over the years, including "Newhart," "Murphy Brown," and "The Good Fight." He won an Emmy in 2016 for his portrayal of Hannah's father Tad Horvath on "Girls."
"Bosom Buddies" was on the air for two seasons at ABC. On the show, Scolari and Hanks dressed as women in order to move into an affordable women-only residence. The two actors remained good friends in real life, with Scolari saying in an interview for Oprah Winfrey that Hanks toasted him at his wedding.
