Marvel Rivals

Looks like it's similar to Overwatch and the lije.
I'm generally not a fan of those but will give it a shot just because of Marvel.

The term is 'hero shooter.'

I enjoy them, but I haven't had an 'active' one in a while. The problem is that most of the companies have decided that a few trends are better money makers - battle royales, extraction shooters, and anything that can be leveraged as a service. Even Overwatch (one of the last of the genre that I played) fell prey to some aspects of this when they rebooted (and promptly watched their playerbase vanish.) I'm happy to pay for a game, but I don't want to be constantly farmed for cash by the publisher, constantly hounded to spend, and to keep running into yet another inconvenience that can be solved with just a little real-world cash. Oh, and be regularly annoyed by that one person in every match who doesn't think twice about spending a thousand bucks to gain an advantage.

And this is free-to-play, which strongly suggests that it'll be doing exactly that.

downloaded and played this over the weekend, and had a lot of fun with it.

I only pretty much played Captain America - who is classified as Vanguard/Tank, but he doesn't do a lot of damage, but the shield does do a pretty good job of soaking up damage and redirecting it back. Controls on the xBox take a bit of getting used to, as they don't really have a good controller mapping as the controls for each hero appear to be different. You definitely need to go through the tutorial and get into a game against bots to really start to learn a hero. Also, I still don't really have any clue what you can earn through playing, and what you need to pay money for yet. That interface is very confusing to me. I did do a few matches with Harkonis and a friend of his and we had a good time tho! It actually took me away from Indy and the Great Circle for chunks of the weekend, and time flew by.

I'm Pyperkub (I'm pretty sure I have cross-platform enabled) and if anyone is signing up, here's my Assemble Code for new signups if you don't have someone else's

Pyperkub Assemble! code- 2038575291

You put it in at Account Creation, I believe.

Free to play is the worst. I hate being nickled and dimed every time I play, especially if it's pay to win.

It's not. All cosmetics. Also, at least the 1st battlepass is only $5

Played it for a few hours with a friend and I'm really impressed. I'm not too into action PvP these days, though I did play Paladins heavily once upon a time.

It's gorgeous, the heroes I played felt really good, there's tons of variety. The escort and attack/defend objectives are stale, but the gameplay itself is tons of fun. I mostly played Punisher and Mantis (a support/healer).

It's not something I'd play solo, and I have no desire to play ranked and try to get really good. But might be good for game night and working through the free battle pass. Haven't examined the paid pass, but I can't imagine buying it. (Though I just read the post above and if it's only $5 that's very reasonable.) The skins are really good though. (But might make it difficult to identify some of the more obscure characters at first.)

Checking this out is a no-brainer if you dig Marvel and don't completely hate the genre. The heroes really feel like their counterparts, not just skins pasted on archetypes. I mean yeah, beefy characters are kind of shoehorned into Overwatch-like tank roles. But their abilities feel appropriate. Iron Man is a jerkass who hovers high above the battle blasting down on his foes. (Stages heavily feature multi-level environments.) Wolverine gets up in your face and demolishes light heroes and self-heals. Spider-Man swings and jumps around everywhere like a monkey on speed. Etc.

The environment have some destructible elements which is fun. Though more than once I backed up into a pit and died. That felt really bad, but because I haven't learned any of the maps yet I just have zero awareness.

The voice lines are repetitive and already kind of annoying though.

I haven't explored the monetization yet, but it doesn't feel aggressive as F2P at all. You get access to all the heroes. It feels very open like Fortnite, not some gacha game. But I'll have to learn more.

Anyway, just my first impression. I'm sure it will lose its shine a bit.
