I just bought this. It’s perfect for my rig, the price is right and I’m having fun with the tutorial. It’s not as complex as X-Com but then again I don’t need every tactical game to be X-Com.

I admit to seeing it and thinking "meh". Let us know how it turns out.

I picked it up. Just starting act 2, fun so far.

You clear rooms. It's low stress tactical TBS. There is a rewind mechanic so you can see how your moves will play out but each round is locked once you end all turns. There is a story tying each mission together but it's not going to win any awards. It does allow for some humor and dialog trees. Unclear to me if the trees affect gameplay or missions.

Not a lot of base building or other team management other than skill upgrades.

There are optional challenges in each room (things like defenistrate x number of enemies, clear room in x turns, etc) that give it additional difficulty. The challenges allow you to unlock cosmetics.

So far pretty much what I was looking for.

Can you build the mages using skill trees? I.e. melee, tank, dps, elemental caster etc etc? How configurable are the characters? How much does each skill tree change the mechanics?

I just finished the game this morning, 15 hours in total.

All the mages have a set role. You can assign perks as they gain levels that improve different talents. The perks do impact how you can use the skills to a degree but nothing really game changing. They are impactful choices, but not in that way.
