Re: PS5 Pro
My guess is that Sony officially announces the Pro and then it goes on sale about a month later. At this point you have several devs saying it's real and they're developing games with the specs in mind, so I would be shocked if it ends up not getting released.

Re: PS5 Pro
Instead of the PS5 Pro, though, I wish they would just aim for the PS6. I don't think there's much of a need for the PS5 Pro unlike the PS4 Pro, which had been done because the PS4 was released before HDR and 4K resolutions were a thing.

Re: PS5 Pro
Don't worry, they are definitely making a PS6. Talk is that the PS5 is already past it's life cycle, and will be replaced soon. The PS5 Pro seems like a money grab to me.

Re: PS5 Pro
Yeah, it really is. And I do know they're going to make a PS6, but I meant that everything they're talking about in terms of specs for the PS5 Pro should just apply to the PS6 instead. And it's particularly annoying seeing as this generation has seen less games in general. Which makes it a higher bar to buying in.
On the other hand, I'm going to laugh if all it turns out to be are plans for the PS6. People are so convinced the PS5 Pro is a thing, but what if Sony announces it as the PS6?

It's been officially revealed. The leaks were right on in terms of specs and features. It launches 11-7-24 for $699. I think that is the disc version, I didn't see any mention of a non disc version.

Re: PS5 Pro
That price is steep, BUT it will allow you to play PS5 games in 4K with Ray Tracing on at 60fps. So that's kind of a big deal. I really do like playing games with Ray Tracing on when the frame rate will allow it.
I'm still not sure If I'll bite though, I guess it depends on what kind of trade in deals Gamestop runs for the upgrade.

Now I'm seeing the $700 version does NOT have a disc drive. Which really makes that price seem steep.

Re: PS5 Pro
It's likely to use the same removable drive system that the Slim used, so you could remove the drive if you wanted to. And Vice Versa if it doesn't include the drive that they most likely want you to purchase separately.
Edit: Nearly $1000 CND for the PS5 Pro...

$800 if you want a Pro with the Disc drive priced me out. I probably would have done $700 if it came with the drive built in. I'm also hearing that it doesn't come with the base so that you can stand it upright.

Re: PS5 Pro
The PS5 Slim has a different kind of stand; a horizontal one where it rests on some little feet, which would probably be included with the PS5 Pro. But all the promotional material really confused me with the PS5 Slim, and they're doing the same exact thing with the PS5 Pro, and that's having it stand vertically. This I think is only serving to fuel the frustrations at the vertical stand not being included.

Re: PS5 Pro
Its because of the scalpers when the PS5 was launched. Retailers and distributors were mad because machines were being bought at retail price and scalped for over $1000 in 2022. And everyone got mad at them not just the scalpers. So when there is limited supply rising the retail price limits that.
There will probably only be about 5 million worldwide at launch anyway so even if you do want one; it might still be scalped!
Out of inflation, companies like Sony are also discovering that there is more profit and just as much revenue to be gained by going for only the top 5-10% in terms of pricing their products. The mass market is largely becoming less relevant.

Re: PS5 Pro
After tax Sony charges $747 for the Pro. My brother in law is going to buy my current PS5 for $350.00. So in reality I'm going to get a PS5 pro for $400.00 which is the only reason I pulled the trigger. $400.00 for a mid gen upgrade feels a heck of lot better than $750. I'll decide later if I want to pay for the disc expansion. I realistically only have 2 games I would need the disc drive for at this point, so it might be cheaper just to pass on the drive and buy the digital versions of those games if I want to play them on the Pro.

Re: PS5 Pro
Just got back from the Tokyo Game Show. I was on the fence about getting a Pro, but they kind of got me with the new 30th Anniversary model: In the original PS colors, that thing is hitting the nostalgia notes strongly!
Also, some of the new games coming out look really interesting. There was a lot of stuff there that’s mainly for the Japanese market and was unfamiliar to me (and a little strange), but my “game of show” was an upcoming horror/survivor title, “REANIMAL,” which was super creepy.

Re: PS5 Pro
My biggest issue with this upgrade is a) the lack of a physical disc drive as I still don't have a dedicated 4K blu ray player, and b) the fact that there hasn't been a technological leap in TVs to make this console really worth it, unlike with the PS4 Pro/XBox One X.
Hodor.

Re: PS5 Pro
Yeah, that's been the main complaint of the PS5 Pro. The PS4 Pro was done because TVs had advanced since the release of the PS4, to add 4K HDR support. But this generation doesn't have that technological gap to make a PS5 Pro necessary.

For me it comes down to running the games at 4K with Ray Tracing on and framerates higher than 30. Give me the best graphical options with a smooth frame rate.
I may be an outlier though in my love of ray tracing. I do feel like it makes the games look much better when implemented correctly.

I’m pretty happy with the graphics on my PS5 but I do look forward to the wondrous graphics that will be supported by the PS6 and will save my coins for that release.

And I don't blame you. But you're probably in the 1% who can really take advantage of it. Most probably wouldn't even notice. I don't think the reveal trailer was particularly convincing in pointing out the benefits via minute comparisons. They could have done a better job with that, particularly due to to the fact most of the games shown were their own 1st party games.Scraper wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:32 amFor me it comes down to running the games at 4K with Ray Tracing on and framerates higher than 30. I did say I'm a sucker a couple of posts back, so I own that, I am a sucker for new consoles. Heck right now in my house I have a PS5, Series X, Series S, Wii, WiiU, PS4 Pro, PS3, the PS1 mini, a snes mini, a Switch and a Gamecube all connected to various tvs. So I guess I am a bit obsessed with having consoles.Rumpy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:40 pmAnd I don't blame you. Re: PS5 Pro
I got my PS5 pro on Thursday. I ended up adding a disc drive to it as well. So far I have played Demon souls, the new Horizon remastered and Dragons Dogma 2. I'm really impressed with Demon Souls and Horizon. They both look phenomenal and they both run at a steady high framerate. Dragons Dogma is a mixed bag, it looks ok but it's nothing to brag about.
Honestly I'm the most impressed with Demon Souls. It somehow looks better than the standard PS5 version and runs at a solid 60fps.
Overall I'm not regretting the purchase since I sold my standard Ps5 for $350. It made the expense on the pro more reasonable.
I don't know that I could justify the $800+ expense without that $350 trade offset though.

Re: PS5 Pro
I got my PS5 Pro (digital only) on Tuesday, and here are my impressions so far:
My reason for getting the Pro was that I find it hard to play games at 30fps after experiencing higher frame rates AND I really love visual fidelity in games, which makes it hard for me pick a "performance" mode over a "fidelity" mode, so all I really want is to play games at the highest visual settings at more than 30fps, ideally around 60fps. My TV supports VRR, so I can use modes that improve framerates to around 48fps, and that is often good enough for me.
I have played the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" games that I own and have to say that I'm really impressed with Spider-Man Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West and Zero Dawn Remastered, The Crew Motorfest, GT7 (looks amazing at super high framerate), Stellar Blade, No Man's Sky, and Demon's Souls. With respect to all of these games, the Pro does exactly what I bought it for (some of these games, like the Horizon games) even give you different meaningful options.
The Last of Use Part I and Assassin's Creed Mirage looked good, but I didn't play the first one on a non-Pro PS5, and Mirage's framerates seemed not very high.
I did NOT see any improvement in Diablo IV (but only played for a few minutes), and Hogwarts Legacy was a huge disappointment - allegedly, they improved the ray tracing, but the respective mode is still capped at around 30fps, and uncapping the framerate makes it even choppier.
For other non-Pro Enhanced PS5 games, I think some feel a bit smoother or "snappier", but I did not notice huge differences (but also did not do a lot of testing). I think Control was smoother, same with Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Witcher 3, and Deatloop, but it's hard to tell.
Same with PS4 games - some feel a bit smoother, but it's hard to tell (and I did not see any meaningful visual improvements),
BUT: I have an issue with the Pro that, according to the internet, a good number of people have: the console has problems holding and/or connecting to Wifi and regularly drops the connection with a DNS error message. I followed some tips, and it seems to be better now, but it's not completely gone. I really hope they can patch this; it's super annoying and made downloading all my games a huge PITA.
So: it is worth it? Overall, I'm happy with most results but it's not a complete game changer. I really hope they issue patches for older games that, while not adding new modes, at least unlock some of the framerate potential.

Same here, it's about 10 feet from the router (with a drywall in between) and my (non-PRO) PS5 was in the same position and never had, and does not have, the issue
Here's one thread I found that discusses the issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5pro/comment ... ?rdt=52775
