I'm not sure exactly when the Youtube embeds stopped working, but I did notice that the forum was down for maintenance recently, so it might be related.

I've been trying to get a new media handler working and clearly it's not; what's frustrating is the lack of errors on why it's not working (is it a python dependency? Am I missing a core library somewhere? Unfortunately it doesn't tell me anything other than bombs the board out. Haven't had a lot of time over the holidays as I've been 100% not working (phew!) and spending as much time with my girls while they are home. Tonight my oldest flies home and I'll take a look at it again tonight or tomorrow before football kicks off and see if I can figure this out.

What's odd is I backed out the media handler that I added, and now YouTube is horked - I wonder if that's what has been creating the error condition (whatever was handling the embedded Youtube links was conflicting with the new media handler) - that at least gives me something to work on as a starting point.

Could a settings file maybe have become corrupted somehow? What happens if you replace that file via one from a backup?

Phpbb3 isn't really configured by a single file.. I'd have to look at when I last did a board upgrade and then restore from there but that's a valid and viable point!

I'll take a look this evening after dinner and see what's going on.

Wow, I got it the first time. Didn't need to post it 4 times!

Someone else confirm I'm not crazy and YouTube is fixed? I think I know where my problem is, the extension I am trying to install doesn't show - and I whacked the old one (which thankfully I still had a copy of the original zip file).

I need to migrate from the old one to this new one; but for now it looks like YouTube is sorted. I think.

Thanks! I also now see the other extension showing up in the list as not enabled (which I couldn't get before) so that's good. Not going to work on that tonight though, but it's coming - soon there will be the ability to embed bluesky links among many other media/socials. If I have time Saturday morning I'll take a kick at it.

I can see it works going forward but the stuff backwards does not. If I quote any previous youtube link it becomes embedded in the quote preview. I also see that Punisher has already posted a new embedded link as well as quoting and old one in the youtube thread.

I checked the movie trailer thread, and it works backwards, so not sure.

Interesting, I went back to the YouTube thread and everything I see in there is embedded. Anyone else having this sporadic issue?

In the Youtube thread, Page 225 all works. Page 226 the embeds don't work until the day you fixed it (so the top half of the page is just links for me).

Fwiw, I can live with this and appreciate your efforts to keep everything running!

+1 I didn't look at old pages last time. Maybe if I clear my history, which I loathe to do at this point. I doubt it though, as they also didn't work in another browser which would not have a cache of pages, which suggests it is only posts between update and tweak that don't embed. Whichever way, It's definitely good enough for me.

I tried that - didn't work. I have a feeling it was the status of the board at the time the link was submitted, like it's not retroactively processing links that were posted during the Kaput Times.

I will need to re-parse the posts that were made in the interim while the plugin was horked - unfortunately that's a global "parse all posts" not just a range of posts. I'll save this for when I enable the new plugin, as I believe it works as a generic MEDIA and /MEDIA tag versus YouTube - so I'll likely need to do some parsing there at some point.

For now the gap will have to be lived with, it doesn't sound like its all that extensive - if it is let me know and I can execute it this weekend (probably will take a few hours to parse all posts on the board - and I'll need to take the board offline to lock the database while it does it).

One workaround I've just tried: If you're the poster of a video that isn't showing up. Go back into edit mode then click submit. The video should then show.

It's a gap of a few days. In a couple of weeks, it'll be a curiosity that nobody will remember the cause of if they happen to look back at an old post in the middle of a fast-moving thread. In a month, nobody will know, remember, or care.

In other words, don't give up your time to fix a speedbump that's two states behind us.

Actually I have only posted two vids since and they are peter paul and mary ones singing Puff.

I actually came in here to thank you for fixing the links. And that I appreciatee you..you all actually. I dont say that enough and Im sry for that. I have always had trouble expressing appreciation to others...even my own wife. I beared ddown and did tell my wife how much I appreciated her a few months before she esuddenly passeed and I had no idea that was coming. I lucked out theere.
