Kid got a 10 lb Amazon gift card (UK currency) from someone in the UK.
Wife redeemed it to our account. But can't spend in the US, only in the UK, which with shipping leaves about 1 lb to spend.
Any way to convert that to US account dollar/spend in the US?
Amazon UK gift card - how do you use it in the US?

FTFY; lb is an abbreviation used to measure weight.Zenn7 wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:17 pm Kid got a £10 lb Amazon gift card (UK currency) from someone in the UK.

Unfortunately, there's likely no way to convert the £10 Amazon gift card you received into a balance usable on the US site, especially if your wife has already redeemed it. Amazon gift cards are typically region-specific, meaning that a UK Amazon gift card can only be used on the UK Amazon site and cannot be directly converted to a balance usable on the US Amazon site. Some gift card exchange services allow you to trade gift cards for other cards or cash, but that's obviously not an option when the card has already been redeemed.
£10 GBP works out to around $12.33 USD at the current exchange rate. Since the gift card was intended for your child, I'd suggest simply providing them with an equivalent amount in US dollars from your own funds.

You need to find a non-region locked e-gift card. Maybe Steam? Fortnite V-bucks should work but Riot Games e-cards will only work on EU accounts from Amazon.uk.

Yeah, that's frustrating. As our family straddles the Canada-US border we learned long ago that while you can ship across the border from your local Amazon site, that's often a horrible idea due to shipping and fees (on top of the conversion rate). Especially these days. So instead, when we buy each other gifts we'll usually switch to the recipient's site.
Which obviously isn't a helpful tale at this point. But just sharing.
I remember when there was only Amazon US and I'd get books and DVDs shipped across the border. It was still a great deal!
Too bad Amazon long ago joined the Evil Empire. But there's no real other option anymore. Something something no ethical consumption under capitalism.

Bummer! Thanks for all the feedback though, much appreciated as always.
My child is an adult (in college), he'll have to suck it up (he got this in exchange for something he did for someone in the UK, no idea what that was specifically).
