The RPG THEY didn't want you to see...Nightmare of Druaga!

If it's a video game it goes here.

The RPG THEY didn't want you to see...Nightmare of Druaga!

Post by LordGek »

Hey Gang,

While I'm still only in the early stages, Nightmare of Druaga is shaping up to be a pretty decent Roguelike RPG. The initial reviews have been pretty weak but it really appers that its mainly because the reviewers don't get the concept of Roguelikes (randomly generated dungeons, turn-based, single character, can often be really tough, and usually unremarkable storylines).

The meaning behind the title of my post is NOT that these negative reviewers wish you wouldn't bother with this game, but Namco themselves seems to be doing all they can to undermine their release here. Almost no advertising and IF your local EB or Gamestop carries it at all it will probably just be ONE copy!

Turn-based? Randomly generated? Challenging? Sounds interesting. Thanks for bringing it to attention. It would have completely passed under my radar otherwise (I don't pay much attention to console game news sites). I've added it to my Gamefly queue now.

I should warn, however...

Hey Gang,

A couple of things they pull in this game that I can appreciate but might make others VIOLENTLY ILL, I should warn:

Bonus Dungeons: I like the concept, real tough side shoot you can just skip if you want but it does HURT to go though all of that pain and NOT get any experience. Imagine taking out Diablo's Butcher and getting NO EXPERIENCE. Kind of frustrating but at least the items you can find in there are pretty amazing and much better than what you can find out in the main quest levels.

Quest Dungeons: I really like these, the ultimate challenges, I think, but at the same time I KNOW these would piss a lot of folk off. While each of these quest dungeons may have its own rules on equipment, they're usually a simple case of:
1) Can't bring any of your already existing equipment into the dungeon.
2) Your level is temporarily reset to level 1 (and you DO gain experience in these dungeons, unlike the Bonus ones).
3) Even if you do manage to succede in your quest in one of these dungeons you DON'T GET TO KEEP ANY OF THE ITEMS you found and your experience simply sets itself back to whatever it was at before you entered (like it was all just a bad dream).

So caveat emptor and all that!

Hey There,

Yep so far these Mysterious Dungeons deals have just been Sony Playstation based, at least here. Perhaps in Japan they've made it to other systems.
