So, I just got a CDN$50 gift certificate from EB.

As a single-player RPGer at heart, should I:

a) hang on until Dungeon Lords comes out, or
b) spend it now and get Freedom Force 3rd Reich and Evil Genius?

While I did enjoy Evil Genius (Too bad about them closing down as I was hoping for a sequel) I found Freedom Force very short and lacking a lot of the magic that the first had. Truth be told I only bought it to support Irrational.

Wait.
Ah, so he has retractable metal claws that punch through his flesh, just like a real wolverine.
Right, just like a real wolverine.
Ah, and his metal retractable claws can easily cut through hardened steel, just like a real wolverine.
Just like a real one, exactly.

You might want to read this first.

For the money, my gut reaction is that you'll get your most value from getting Dungeon Lords.

That being said...I'm still not totally sold on the game after the demo. Not because I didn't like the demo...I just didn't get the impression the demo represented what the game is really like.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

Then they should be punished for bad advertising. :x

Freedom Force Versus The Third Reich!

Let me type that again, because I get so much pleasure out of it...

Freedom Force Versus The Third Reich!

Fuck, yeah.

It is rare that I have as much fun playing a game as I had playing either Freedom Force. It is rare that I finish a game without getting distracted by other games. It is rare that I enjoy a game so much that I make my wife listen to me tell her about the plot and characters.

Dungeon Lords? Feh! You probably fight giant rats again. Would you rather fight rats or super powered fascists?

FF vs TR was fun. But, I mostly agree with Andrew.

In the unlikely event that Dungeon Lords is actually finished when it is shipped, then you should get it.
If it turns out to be a buggy, unfinished pile of dog do-do, than you would be better served spending your money elsewhere...

Did you miss the part about beating up on super-powered fascists? You can throw a car at an enormous flying opera singer.

I settled on a used KotORII and Evil Genius (last copy). I figure that FF2 will come down a few bucks still in the coming months, and that Dungeon Lords will either hit resale or drop quickly as well.

Evil Genius is up first and I keep restarting until I am happy with my first base. :D

Check out the newer threads on the Dungeon Lords Mesage Boards

Now that all the haters have had their say the players are having some fun with the game. There is no question that it came out buggy, but it's still playable and more important, fun to play.

I probably would have picked up DL, but it wasn't available yet (Saturday); EB Ottawa said Tuesday was likely.

I'm guessing a "stop ship" was ordered to minimize the bad press. :?

Dungeon Lords is about as good as its demo. Which is to say, it's awful.

Seriously, DL seems like Masters of Orion 3 all over again. Already the apologists/extreme minority who like the game are 'making a stand' to attempt to save this steaming pile. The rest of us have returned the game, shelved it for a patch that'll never come, or just thrown the POS away.

Don't be fooled by those who'd praise the game. It's not worth anywhere near $40.
