Stronghold 2 had me pretty bored pretty quickly. However, judging from the demo Knights of Honor looks like a blast, and I have it on order.

I don't know if there is a Stronghold 2 demo, but I would suggest getting the one for KoH.
I spent 90% of the money I made on women, booze, and drugs. The other 10% I just pissed away.

The first Strongholds were very amusing to me because I liked the lighthearted atmosphere of building a simple medieval economy with castle an supporting town: very similar to a city builder. Stronghold 2 seems from all indications more of the same but with better graphics. Unfortunately, the same problems with combat and AI also are present. I decided to wait till the price dropped significantly.

KOH I can't say as much about but GameRankings.com has a cumulative rating of 79% for it (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/917995.asp).

Certainly though KOH seems more promising based on the reviews.

A year from now, I'll have both probably! :) No rush for me.

But, enough about me...I say KOH!!!

Knights of Honor AI has been tweaked along with other things for the NA release, and that is what dropped those cumulative scores. So at this point, it looks like KoH should be the best choice.

<edited since I abbreviated one word, and re-reading realized how gross it sounded>

My son is a massive Stronghold fan, but he seems to not be drawn to Stronghold 2. He quit playing after a few days and hasn't played since.. He claims he will go back to it soon, but ?

I'd recommend Medieval Lords or Knights of Honor. I prefer Medieval Lords myself, excellent game. It is more of a medieval life simulation, but has a good mix of combat as well. Very economy based.

Kobra, does your son think Stronghold 2 could be fixed and made a lot better with a patch? I'm sad to see the poor reviews.

stronghold 2 could probably only be patched by stronghold 3. just seems to be missing the elements required to make it a fun game, and would need quite an overhaul to sort it out.

My son is only 10.5 years old. But he was a *HUGE* Stronghold Crusader fan. He played Stronghold Crusader almost nightly for well over a year. Offline and online.

I figured he would go insane over Stronghold 2. I bought it for him, he played maybe 2-3 days. Then took a week break, then played 1 day, and hasn't played it since. I asked him tonight and he said "I don't like it, it just doesn't feel right."..

I tried to get him to explain, but he really didn't have answers, only that he doesn't like it, and prefers Stronghold Crusaders over the new one! Crazy! Perhaps the fact that we also own Medieval Lords and Cossacks 2 right now - both of which I personally feel are much better - is clouding his mind.

Seriously, he told me to "Go ahead and sell it" to Stronghold 2, that he has no intentions of playing it again... This coming from a LONGTIME Stronghold fan.

Sad.
