Top 5 games you'd like to see re-made.
I'm curious to see what the top 5 (or so) games that have little/zero existance info available, that you wish was being developed (a re-make or a sequel). PC games only, and think wayyy back!

5? Ok, Note that I like replayable games.
I would like to see a replayable merger of storytelling elements and a solo 4x game. Something like King of Dragon Pass applied to SMAC.
A strategic wrapper telling a loose story around some arcade games. Yes, that's you cinimaware. I maintain it's a good idea.
The board game Magic Realm provides a quick replayable RPG. I think there's a market for that kind of thing.
Somethink like Panzer General, a long wargame for non-grognards. I suspect Fantasy General would fit the bill.
Finally, I have to bring up Darklands. Darklands done with today's technology would be a blast.

-Ultima 4-9 (not because they are all bad, but just to modernize the good ones and improve the not-as-good ones)
-Crusader:No Remorse and No Regret (same pov, just with updated graphics and interface)
-Starflight (with a fully simulated ship to walk around in addition to every other original feature)
-Every Infocom game with updated graphics and interface
.
-Space Quest, Police Quest, LLL all updated. (Interesting point, there is a Doom3 mod redoing the original Space Quest!)

1) Master of Magic
2) X-Com
3) Battletech: The Cresecent Hawks' Revenge
4) Galactic Adventures
5) Auto Duel
I don't know if anyone else played the TBS games that SSI made way back in the day, but Galactic Adventures took that scheme and added some RP elements to it. It was genius.
jpinard: Star Control 2 has been semi-remade; This sourceforge project has made it playable on modern PCs, anyway. And it's free!

-Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space
And maybe remake it into BA's Race to Mars this time. But make the astronaut matching stuff easier. Pure tedium trying to get "compatible" 'nauts in each craft. Esp. in the 3 man crews.. The only thing I didn't like about the game. What a pain.

-Disney's Stunt Island
-Guardians: Agents of Justice
Oops they never made the first one. Darn.
-The Indestructibles

"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle."

You *do* know that Toys For Bob (the developers of the game) released the source code to a group of fans who got to work making a version that is compatible with all modern OSes, don't you? It's using the 3d0 source, with voiceovers and somewhat improved graphics, and it has totally remade music (some of it done by Yours Trulyjpinard wrote:* Star Control 2

Silent Hunter 3 (non-infested edition)
Shogun Total War
Sorry, couldn't think of 5. I'm not really much of a retro-gamer. I'd have better luck coming up with a list of desired sequels rather than remakes. I don't rewatch movies, I don't re-read books, and when I stop playing a game, I am typically quite through with it.

Remakes:
*Heretic/Hexen - the first ones
*Thief 1 & 2 (though I'm kinda fond of the retro-look in that series--not sure if I'd want it updated)
*Jedi Knight: DF2 and Mysteries of the Sith (I'm fine with how those look also, but it'd be cool with updated graphics).
*Outlaws
*The ORIGINAL Carmageddon Max Pack would be awesome with a streamlined engine!
*System Shock 1 - The retro look is fine (the 640 x 480 version anyway), but I'd be curious to see the exact same game done with a modern engine.
*Port Doom 3 back to the original Doom engine. Seriously. For a taste of this, fire up Doom 3 and crank the settings down as low as possible with minimum effects (640 x 480). For me, it was strangely more enjoyable that way since it was like a trip back 10 years and it was like the sequel had been done back then. Played kind of like a 'long lost' version recently discovered. Retro goodness.
*Corridor 7. Sheesh I loved this game for some reason, along with...
*Rise of the Triad and...
*Operation Body Count. First FPS with a flame-thrower!
*Microsoft Space Simulator. The only TRUE wide-open space simulator NEEDS an update. It'll never happen. Only about 100 big fans worldwide.
Mostly, I couldn't care less about improving the graphics in those old titles. Mostly I'd be happy if they re-did 'em all to install right into WinXP with no tweaking, so I wouldn't have to keep all these old PCs around. That's the only real updating necessary as far as I'm concerned.
Sequels:
All of the above-listed titles deserve more sequels, and I'd buy each and every one.

You know, we should really just have some permanent "Hall of Fame" type list of games we'd like to see remade. Every time the topic comes up, we always get scads of calls for X-Com, Master of Magic, and other regulars.
The only game I can think of offhand wasn't made for the PC. It was Ultimate Wizard for Commodore 64.
