I am, by most any yardstick, a mature gamer.
And yet I still get a kick out of the Time Bitch in Warrior Within.

Civ III. I've never beaten 'Sid,' though, which is now the hardest difficulty level on Civ III.Austin wrote:You talking Civ 3?
I can only win occasionally at Regent, and that's with thousands of hours of experience with Civ 1 and 2.Little Raven wrote:Civ III. I've never beaten 'Sid,' though, which is now the hardest difficulty level on Civ III.Austin wrote:You talking Civ 3?
To be honest, I'd much rather play at Monarch. I can win at Diety, but in order to do so, I have to start treating the game as a giant math problem rather than a game, and that really, really takes away from the fun. I only beat it on Diety once to show myself that I could.
Believe me, Hatter, you're plenty smart enough to take Diety if you want. All it takes is a dozen or so hours spent reading forums over at Apolyton or CivFanatics, a pocket calculator, and the patience to review each and every unit and city each and every turn in order to make sure you're maximizing its potential at any given moment. The Mad Hatter wrote:I can only win occasionally at Regent, and that's with thousands of hours of experience with Civ 1 and 2.
Yeah, you know, that's the philosophy I take. Sure at higher levels I could treat each turn as my last, analyze every city/unit, run a decision tree 10 turns out for each move, etc. but it's just not fun. I prefer to play at a level high enough to be a challenge, but not one so high that it just isn't fun. Glad to see I'm not the only one with this attitude.Little Raven wrote:Believe me, Hatter, you're plenty smart enough to take Diety if you want. I found this to be about as much fun as pounding my head against a brick wall. Some people must enjoy it, though. There are plenty of people who have beaten Sid. I am not among them, and I have no plans to try and change that.
Stick to Regent, if that's where you enjoy the game.
