Grand Theft Auto franchise: Why Vulcan mindmelds are defunct

Can it really be?

Is it possible that PC gaming defines popular culture, rather than the other way around? The answer is a resounding yes! The latest megahit, GTA:San Andreas, ranked as one of the greatest games ever, is leaving its mark upon popular culture.
Let’s examine one genre of music commonly called “rap”. Rap music has been around for two decades. And rap has been accepted by some, but not by all. Acceptance of a genre of music across a culture takes more than a radio station and clever marketing techniques. And lawyers to copywrite.
GTA:SA is set to change the rules. Largely set in the urban environment of the West Coast, GTA:SA features a wide selection of rap music for playback. Along with entertaining DJs. It's enough to make a distaste of the genre change to instant devotion.
GTA:SA puts rap music into a particular context and elevates its entertainment value to new heights. This is a defining moment in gaming, when gaming molds the culture you participate in. If previously you were not a fan of rap, this GTA title is uniquely placed to change your mind.
Vulcan mindmelds have been rendered defunct. By mind-numbing fun.

Depends. If it was made in post-2000, then no. Older stuff, yes.

Knowing it has rap music cinches the deal. I will never buy this game.

Why would I like something just because it was in a game?
And How in sam hell are you pretending that this game is introducing rap to non-urban audience, when MTV was doing that two decades ago?
(BTw, What are Ed Lover and the first Dre doing now?)
Oh, wait, this is a lorax thread. Why am I posting here?

Awesome! I don't like rap music, and have just been waiting for something brainwashy to come along and change that.

It has rap radio stations. You can listen to the country station instead, or the hard rock station, or the techno or the talk radio.

Seriously, I was unable to understand a single thing you were trying to get across here, just like your "pithy" Star Wars thread. Please restate the premise of your post in a way intelligible to others.
Thank you, and please drive through.

If it has something from Paul's Boutique then I'm in. It's the only rap album I can stomach.

Anyone who doesn't think Biz Markie's "Just a Friend" is the greatest rap song ever made isn't an American.

Rap is huge nowadays. I don't see how GTA would change anything.

Lorax most of your posts remind me of informercials. You seem to come up with something in your head, and then try to promote that idea as if most people believe the same thing, and the rest of us are missing out.

I just listen to Axl Rose's station, and the goth chicks. You can also make your own station and have that on by default. There's a nice mix of R'n B and old classic songs as well. Vice City's soundtrack was better though.

Webster's definition of game: an activity providing
entertainment or amusement.
If a game ceased to provide entertainment, then it would cease to be a game.

Some people love adventure games. I think they're the most unfun genre out there. It's a pixel hunt to find the next clue (There are exceptions, Monkey Island was great).
Just because I (or a bunch of people) find a game or portion of a game to be boring, doesn't mean it ceases to be a game.

He means in the regard to the music, you know what this thread is about? Why would he like rap music now just because it's in a game he likes.

No kidding. Then it just becomes a bad game.
I asked Webster about copywrite, and he just gave me a blank stare.

It can’t cease to be something it never was. To repeat the Webster-approved definition of game: an activity providing entertainment.
If a game could include boring activities, then washing dishes in the kitchen sink is always a game. The same with any and all activities. Therefore, we must conclude that a game must provide entertainment.
The cephalopod roams the ocean in search for food. Likewise, gaming is a search for entertainment. Not a search for chores. Chores are not games. And games are not chores.
