If you want hardcore GTR is the flavor of the moment, or go old school and play GPL (which with all the mods still looks very presentable). Otherwise, if you prefer only turning in one directionNascar Racing 2003 from Papyrus is a good bet.

none of these are *really* for the kids, though GTR does have an arcade mode. No ideas how accessible it is though, as I only play on sim.

If you're interested in osme GR multiplayer, there are a few OOers who play together.

Best,

Hardcore: Richard Burns Rally or GTR
Fun: Flatout - probably not meant for kids, though

Everything you would want to know about sim-racing

My favorite racing games:

Hardcore:

GTP mod for Nascar Racing 2003 (expensive now, ebay only)

GTR http://www.gtr-game.com (Best Buy carries it, great arcade mode included as well)

SCC mod for F1 Challenge

Live for Speed http://www.liveforspeed.net (S2 Alpha out this Friday)

Richard Burns Rally

Arcade:

Trackmania:Sunrise rocks, but not with a steering wheel, gamepad or keyboard only

GTR (Arcade Mode)

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (Older game, ebay?)

Anyway, those are the ones I find myself playing the most.

Good luck!

GTR is a great game but I would also snag a copy of Nascar Racing 2003 if you can find one but since the EA game came out the price of the Papy game has grown to more than it was when it first came out. There are a lot of mods for the Papy game including open wheel and Trans Am to go along with the various stock cars.

Just wanted to say that I read that Carl Edwards who won the Pocono race last Sunday and had never been to the track before spent time practicing in his motorhome playing Nascar 2003. Also how does a guy like that get Amanda Beard as his girlfriend.

For the kids Trackmania is fun but plays just as well if not better with a gamepad.

For bargain bin diving... Here's a couple classics

* Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed
* 4x4 Evo and/or Evo 2
* Screamer 4x4

All are out of print and probably only exist as jewelcase or budget rerelease in your local stores...

Oh, since someone else might say it and I feel like being the asshole today this thread should be in PC gaming in general.
