Football Sim?
I've been enjoying the heck out of OOTP baseball, but with football seasonn coming up I'm looking for a similar football game.
I purchased and played Front Office Football 2004 last year, but it didn't grab me like OOTP. I'm also having a heck of a time finding any rosters for this game - there don't seem to be many sites out there devoted to it. Anyone have any good FOF links?
The other option seems to be Football Mogul 2005, but this seems to be purely a GM sim, with no user intervention in the actual games. I like playing out the games in OOTP and hope to find a football sim that lets me do the same. With only 16 games a year, it shouldn't be hard to play them out and still get through a season relatively quickly.
Does anyone have any experience with either game they'd like to share? Football Mogul is only $20 right now and includes the (2004) NFL rosters, which makes it very tempting.
Thanks!
And Go Chiefs!

OOTP has spoiled me for all text-based sport sims. I can't even get into Eastside Hockey
. As many gripes as we have about the OOTP UI, it still whomps major bootay over the rest of the games in the genre (at least those I have experienced).

Same here. OOTP is far and away the best sport sim out there. The Meal wrote:OOTP has spoiled me for all text-based sport sims. I can't even get into Eastside Hockey. should be links there. there's also a very active forum, but its pretty bad and nobody really talks about the game much, they're too busy shooting their hyperactive mouths off about politics. dull. anyways, there is a 'sticky' topic in the forum that gives you lots of info:

only if you don't like football. football manager 2005 is about 9 lightyears advanced from OOTP. i simply can't touch OOTP single player because it is so inferior to FM and the old champ series.Kelric wrote:Same here. I know he's from the UK, that's why I had to try and clarify.Koz wrote:They're the same thing
He means soccer as opposed to American football. (he's from the UK). It is better than OOTP as far as sports sims go (IMO of course), but it's a totally different kind of market. For the amount of developer(s) and resources OOTP has, I think it does a great job.

I played around a bit with the demo for Football Mogul 2005 and I think I'm going to spend the $20 for it tonight. Looks like fun, even if you can't play out the games.

For motivation and so Jeff V can make me look bad:

2009 Finals: Biking: 93 miles Running: 158 miles (I know it sucked, but I had a hernia most of the year)

What he said. A little on the expensive side but it has everything you want there including a good paper manual.Beer Goggles wrote:Action! PC Football

Re: Football Sim?
i just gave the demo a spin myself, it is quite fun, but there are some simple features sorely lacking (particularly the unrealistic roster size limit) that kind of spoil it a bit. still, i was almost tempted to go and drop the $20 on the game once i got to the next season and it wouldn't let me play any more. i want to see how my rookies do!Exodor wrote:I played around a bit with the demo for Football Mogul 2005 and I think I'm going to spend the $20 for it tonight. Actually, from my standpoint, Strat-O-Matic's football is the best text-based game on the market. You can't sell hotdogs, set ticket prices, or establish a cap, but for pure football, Strat's is the best.
The only downside to Strat games (baseball, basketball, football, hockey) is that they are exorbitantly priced.
I used to play a lot of Strat baseball and was in a league for a long while. But forking out 50 bills each year for an upgrade, which included small, almost minor changes, was just too much to handle.

No, no career mode. Strat-O-Matic games are geared toward season replays: I doubt they will ever go to a career mode.moss_icon wrote:they don't offer a career mode though, do they?
Still, the football game has internet play, as does the baseball. The next release of the basketball game will also have internet play.
I think these games would sell a lot more if Strat didn't charge so much. On top of that, its shipping rates are somewhat expensive-- something like seven bucks for a US Mail delivery.
If they'd lower the price and provide possibly an online download scheme, things would be much better.
I might get the basketball game once it is released but nothing else, because of price.
