I'm an Explorer first, then an Achiever...
Well, I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out what clasees to play in both Everquest 2 and Guild Wars. I'm new to both of them and was reading this page http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/c ... Id=99&id=8
and it talks about players falling into psychological categories. It's really fascinating to see what I am and enjoy. Using this information it's easy for me to see that my number 1 thrill in MMORGS is Exploration. I think that's the only reason I even like MMORGS, is because there's the chance thr world will expand since it "never ends". Second, I'm an "Achiever" in that I like to learn new things, and am not all about killing. I also LOVE to acquire "stuff" in-game.
So the real reason for this thread is to take suggestions from people on what class they think I should play in both Guild Wars and Everquest 2. I also look for a class where I can depend on myself as I like to solo 99% of the time. Thanks for helping a hopelessly indecisive person!
(I know I posted these questions in antoher thread, but this psychological insight really intrigues me)...

Try the Bartle Test and find out for sure. It's meant for MUDders but MMORPGs are just big graphical MUDs, right?
EDIT: Guess I should post my results too.
Explorer 86%
Achiever 53%
Socializer 46%
Killer 13%
One thing to note, the test is randomized. I did it a second time and had some questions in a different order and some new ones added. The first pass I had 90, 60, xx, 6. I didn't remember what socializer rated and thought I could just plug in the same answers again to get it. Guess not.

I'm surprised the socializer score was higher than the explorer score, but I can't argue with the killing and achieving.Your type is: KAS. 6% of respondents so far fall into that type.
The numbers below represent percentage of how many times you selected a given suite when given the chance. Since there are 15 questions for each suite out of 30 total, the number will add up to 200%. 50% thus means average for each suite, and 100% is the maximum score.
Your answers were split as follows:
Killer 66%
Achiever 60%
Socializer 46%
Explorer 26%

I would be interested in hearing a response also because I recently read a review about Guild Wars that said you can single play the game. (Apparantly you team up with NPCs)
I find it hard to play MMOs because I can never make the schedule to play when everyone else is playing. I like to game at the oddest times and far to many times I would rather do something else rather than meet for an online game. Maybe its becasue I'm still a wage slave that I'm adverse to making anymore specified time committments.
but as far as "Explorer" that is me all over. One of the reasons I can't finish console RPGs anymore is because they are so scripted. The games I like most Might and Magic, Gothic, and Morrowind all have this same sense that you can go anywhere you want (although you might get killed).
If Guild Wars allow me to do such a thing and I can play anytime I want

Thanks for the heads up and here are my results:
The high socializer aspect surprises me, when you consider my previous post. But I do post here at OO so maybe I underestimate myself.Your type is: ESK. 3% of respondents so far fall into that type.

I have no idea since I don't play any current MMO's. I gave them up after a bad MUD addiction a while back. I'll try to answer in a general sense though. Most MMORPG's have a class that's a summoner/trainer/animal tamer. They tend to mix magic and fighting pretty well. They often have to quest for really odd/rare stuff. They can solo or group. I'd look for something like that. Oh, and for a race, I'd choose something that offered bonuses for evasion and speed. You often need to run away when exploring dangerous places by yourself.jpinard wrote:But the real question is... Is an Explorer class a Scout? Mage? Magellon?

I would have thought that Explorer would have been highest on the peg but I recognize that that only represents a one-question swing. I, too, have been considering Guild Wars to see if it is finally the MM that I can get into. They certainly make it tempting by not having the dreaded subscription fee.

So what class does that mean I should play?!

I don't play EQ2 so you're on your own there. I haven't been playing much Guild Wars lately either but if you want something mostly soloable you might go Warrior/Necro or Warrior/Monk. I think those are generally considered good solo builds, W/Mo for more safety and W/N for more fun (IMO of course). Change Warrior to Ranger if you don't like melee.
Nice thing about Guild Wars is that you don't have to build a character of every class to try them all. The starting area has quests that let you try out every class as a secondary. You can probably go through all those quests in a few hours and find out what you do and don't like.
