Dusting off some old games

Post by Skinypupy »

Ever have one of those 'I'm going to dust off some of my old games I haven't touched in years" days? Well, I've got the next 5 days off work, so I'm going to dig through some of my old games see what I can find. Here's my game lineup for the next few days so far:

- Age of Empires II
- Age of Wonders
- HOMM III (maybe I'll actually try the campaign instead of random maps. Never played through it before)
- Quake III
- Dungeon Keeper II
- Majesty Expansion
- Einhander (PS1)
- Skullmonkeys (PS1)
- and to top it all off, I'm going to give Baldur's Gate II another shot.

Some of these games had a layer of dust so thick I almost choked, but it'll be fun to give them a shot again. I'm sure I'll spend the bulk of today just tracking down patches, but hopefully they're all as good as I remember. :)

I love doing this. Right now I'm running through a game of X-COM: Apocalypse (XCOM3).

Wish the whole palette was a bit darker and more menacing, but for strategy, it's a great game.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. With my videocard busted and not displaying 3D graphics properly, I was thinking about playing throught Torment again, as well as Heroes of Might & Magic 3 and/or Fallout 2. I'll see how it goes, though. Not much time now because of work.
My smile still stays on.

Well, I've spent the bulk of the last 4 days between trying out City of Heroes (somewhat enjoyable, but did little to change my general opinion of MMORPG's) and Baldur's Gate 2. I had forgotten what an enormous, sprawling, fantasically detailed game BG2 was. The little touches and details that Black Isle put into that game really make the world come to life. As dated as the Infinity engine is, the 2D artwork still holds up remarkably well.

The toughest part has been switching back to 2nd Edition rules. Ugh...

I play old games bout everyday, or i own them, but that list of games is a tad bit bored on my side of gaming. Quake III is better on dreamcast, better graphics and better control, Skullmonkeys i always wanted to play, back when i was reading gamepro years years ago, and thats about it.

Might wanna add NFS 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 to that list tho.

Im thinking of firing up Ultima 7 part 2 Serpent Ilse yet again. I never have finished that game. A couple times I got close but quit. Other times Id mess something up and get frustrated and quit. Once in that first town if you go to the training arena you can see some chests behind a locked door. Well I took a halbard to them through the wall and destroyed them. Was'nt anything in them but come to find out thats where the game stores some items you need to complete the game..doh!

Majesty is an amazing game. Too bad they cancelled Majesty2 so they could go "Playboy" instead.

Seriously? That's dissapointing. Majesty was one of those truly unique games that just had so much personality and, dare I say it, charm that you couldn't help but enjoy it.

Found that it's really tough to play on today's systems because the scroll speed becomes so high. It was fine on older systems, but when the screen flys by at warp speed it's a little hard to do the necessary micromanaging.

Cyberlore had Majesty 2 about 75% complete, they even had screenshots circulating. Then their publisher had them pull the plug and work on that crappy Playboy game for the last 2 years. Rumors were, it was dead..

Developers haven't commented in their forums, and there are only "Rumors" about it. No clue what they are working on right now - it COULD be Majesty 2, but then again, we thought that they were before - and then they threw us a crappy Playboy game instead. :P

Lists Majesty Legends as 12/31/05... So who knows.

Majesty was a brilliant game, I STILL play it quite often..

ohhh, Majesty - damn good game, actually also quite fun to play multiplayer...

The art was excellent, the score fitted perfectly and the whole experience of the game was just...fun. Now I gotta go install it again, hehe... As if Mount and Blade isnt taking enough of my valuable gaming time...

I broke out Mafia yesterday. I never gave it much of a chance when it first came out, my machine could barely play it, but after playing for a few hours yesterday (just finished the race, got 1st on my third try with the unpatched game) I don't know why I waited so long to play this. Fantastic game!

Mafia was fun but man was I glad when it ended. It was about 5 missions too long.
