The official FMV love in thread

FMV, Full Motion Video, was the bane of many gamer. Or so they said. The truth is that FMV was just a tool. A tool could to be used for good or evil. Some of my favorite, and most hated gaming moments were FMV. Lets enjoy the good ones...

I'd have to say Realms of the Haunting made good use of video and didn't feel gimmicky.

Best FMV game ever there. My opinion only, but the second Gabe Knight game had maybe the best story ever brought to the computer gaming genre.

Pandora Directive--almost as good, despite the presence of Tanya Roberts.

I'm playing Mechwarrior 4 and am kind of enjoying the FMV, cheesy and poorly acted though it is.

Command and Conquer also had some great FMV.

When Kane shot that dude in the head...wow.

The FMV Cheese award goes to Crusader:NR. The cut scenes are one of the reasons the Crusader games are my favorites.

Hardw[a]r had some great FMV cutscenes. I've got to get around to finishing that someday-- what an awesome game.

Ah yes, Hardwar -- fantastic game. You especially have to finish it because the ending montage is the best of them. Go. Now :)

Definitely best FMV game. As for best storyline, maybe. I don't know, it's a toss up for me between The Beast Within (this one) and Sins of the Fathers (the first one). Though Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned had a very good story as well. Just shy of being as good as the previous ones. Still, it's my favorite game series.

If you're hankering for some FMV, you can do a lot worse than Act of War which has probably come down in price a bit by now.

What a great game. Gabe and Gracie had such charm, which they lost in the 3rd one. Definitely best use of FMV, I think. Wonder if it will run in XP?

Equal parts fun and cheese. I especially loved the hilariously overacted twi'lek Sith guy. :) Am I alone in thinking that the game engine generated cutscenes used in the subsequent Jedi Knight games were a step backwards?

She was in WC3 also. You could bag her. But I preferred the other chick much more.

Hmm... I think I've got it buried in a box somewhere, but it would probably be easier to just acquire it again. Are you saying there are 2 separate versions, Triggercut?

FMV games just don't seem to age well. I tried to replay GK2 a few months back and it was just awful. I couldn't stand it, and I used to love that game.

I can still go back to GK1 though.
End of line.

2 versions from the same discs. There's an option to install via windows or DoS.

Get the patch that removes interlacing. Google for it. The sites I used to know that had it are down. Anyways, it improves the video quality a lot. No more stupid black lines.

But if you mean the animations that are made from videos of people. Yeah, those're annoying...

Edit: De-interlace patch.

Thanks for the link, Kyosho. I might try it, but I was referring more to the whole FMV production. It just feels too poorly produced by today's standards.
End of line.

No, I think she was only in WC4, not 3. IMDb is wrong.
Dang it, don't make me re-install WC3 to prove it!

Realms of the Haunting: Blended in perfectly.
Jedi Knight: Likewise. And Jan Ors was hot. (Angela Harry--was really pissed they didn't use FMV in Mysteries of the Sith for this reason).
Pandora Directive: Haven't played it recently, but I liked it at the time.
Also, I kinda liked Phantasmagoria. That chick was hot too. She wore a great shirt.

And "Aliens Vs. Predator": They had those little video monitors scattered around that would allow your commander to talk to you via FMV. I mean you could still move around and be watching the FMV on these monitors without cutting away. I still think it's an ultra-cool effect. That little FMV is worked right into the game seamlessly. It amazed me at the time.

Incorrect, sir. I just replayed WC3 and she is definately there as one of the bangable chicks.

I loved that one. Also liked Heavy Gear and was disappointed 2 didn't use it.
Ah, so he has retractable metal claws that punch through his flesh, just like a real wolverine.
Right, just like a real wolverine.

You need to fire back up WC3. She's definately in it, as one of the 2 love interests for Blair.

Or, if you want, you could just head over to wcnews.com and browse around there....

I loved the X Files game - it was like playing a version of the TV show. Had its kinks but I thought it was very well done. You could do all sorts of crazy stuff and the game had an answer to them - just once I pulled out my handcuffs and put them on Assistant Director Skinner - the next scene showed me being cuffed and arrested (the same thing happened when I pulled my gun out and shot him too! :) ) Had alot of coo Easter eggs too. Definitely fun for fans, probably not so much for anyone else.
