Padre's Werewolf 2: Lycanthropic Boogaloo

Post by Padre »

Grundbegriff provided me with the following list of people who had signed up in the first thread, so this'll be based of that. I'm looking for 16 or 18 players. I'll need confirmation from the question-marked below, and if people wanna pull out if they're listed here please say ASAP

It's getting late here so I probably won't start this tonight, it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

If people wanna discuss the last game or discuss the game in general, please use the old thread.
  1. Kelric (ought to have immunity from first-round slaughter)
  2. Chaosraven
  3. Grundbegriff
  4. Cesare's Divine Spark
  5. CSL
  6. J.D.
  7. Gryndyl
  8. Leigh
  9. triggercut
  10. Ænima
  11. Remus West
  12. Jiffy
  13. Asharak
  14. Orinoco
  15. tru1cy
  16. msteelers
  17. Spiff
  18. Crux
THE RULES:

Changes of note:

* There will be three werewolves. Still one Seer only.
* The Seer's death, should it occur, will not be announced - his death will be announced as a villager's is. A werewolf's death will be announced as before.
* Night-time communication is now ok, as I noticed that there was no reason to ban it provided I'm careful about handling the seer.

Full rules listing:

All the players together constitute the Village.

Most of you are innocent "Villagers", but THREE of you are secretly "Werewolves". In addition, ONE of you is a "Seer", and while you don't have to keep this a secret, you have no means of proving you are the true Seer.

I will choose, at random, which of you gets each role.

At Night, the Werewolves choose a villager to murder. The werewolves are aware of each other and allied. They conspire in secret between them to choose - so they may choose the Seer (except that they don't know which one of you he is), but they won't choose themselves.

Also at Night, the Seer receives a Vision. He may ask about one player "Is X a werewolf?”, and I will give him a True answer to his question.

At Dawn, the Village will awake to find that one Villager has been murdered by the Werewolves. You are all told who this is. Dead players are out of the game and should no longer communicate with live players.

The Village then votes on a player to Lynch. This may be anyone - Seer, Werewolf, innocent Villager - indeed, the game hinges on the players not being certain who is who.

Voting works via absolute majority. The village must lynch one player each day. If voting is deadlocked in some way, players are encouraged to break the deadlock somehow. In extreme circumstances where deadlocks are slowing down the game interminably, the moderator reserves the right to accept a plurality of votes. In the unlikely event this still does not resolve the matter, the moderator will be very unhappy. Be decisive, you wimps! He may flip a coin or do something equally arbitrary if pushed.

The player with the most votes is killed, and is out of the game. You are all told, after the player has been killed, whether he was a Villager or a Werewolf. The Seer's death is announced as a Villager death.

The Villagers and Seer win if they kill the Werewolves.

The Werewolves win if they kill enough Villagers (through direct murder and misdirecting the lynch mob) to reduce their numbers to equal with the Werewolves (i.e. three villagers left, or two if one of the werewolves is dead, or only one if two of the werewolves are dead).

--------------------------

You may post any discussion in this thread. There are no restrictions on speech for the living - anyone and everyone may freely claim to be the Seer, a Villager, or even a Werewolf (if you want), make predictions, threats, accusations, tell blatant lies, subtle lies, half-truths, misleading truths and even unvarnished honest truths.

You may also communicate via PM, to anyone you choose, saying anything you choose.

On restriction exists: The dead should not speak to anyone. As soon as a definite decision has been made on who to Lynch, that person is dead and should speak no more. Obviously I can't (and won't) enforce this, but keep it in mind as being not in the spirit of the game. Dead men tell no tales.

I will personally declare the changes between Night and Day, who has been murdered by the Werewolves at Night, and the results of all votes for Lynching.

Sorry about that. I shouldn't have left the question mark by Chaosraven, since later in the thread (s)he confirmed a definite desire to play.

New lists of people requesting to play:

Grundbegriff's (now underway) (link):
  1. Yankeeman84
  2. Zaxxon
  3. Arnir
  4. Lars
  5. DocD
  6. setaside
  7. tgb
  8. Al
  9. Gryndyl
  10. Ralph-Wiggum
  11. st_dysan
  12. Suitably Ironic Moniker
Overflow session #2 (Koz's Kiln?):
  1. gbasden
  2. Harkonis
  3. Bad Demographic
I've separated gbasden and Yankeeman84, to ensure variety, and I've given priority to folks who haven't played yet (thus bumping two who played for a long time into the second overflow group).

If you're not already in Padre's game or my game, listed above, and you'd like to join Overflow session #2, just say so!

Do players need to be on IRC? I thought I read that somewhere. If that's not the case then I'll play.

This is a werewolf game, not zombies!

I'm not sure what's going on with Grund's Gallows or why I didn't make THAT cut. :(. Maybe I'll just play a game all by myself. It will involve a nightly self-lynching and self-gutting followed by daytime paranoia. Man, I don't think I have legal access to the kind of drugs that would make that fun. :(

You had already made the cut (as did I) with Padre's 2nd session, which was formed before mine, even though mine has sort of started first.

Quirk of trans-Atlantic gaming. ;)

Omg. Are you saying that as soon as Padre wakes up (which I'm figuring should be just about now) I'll be a transAtlantic gamer?? Is this the part where I get to say WOOT?

You just leave that to The Mad Hatter.

Ok, unless anyone says otherwise, the list above will be our player list for this game. I'm now rolling my d10s in order to determine the three werewolves and the seer.

(first I roll to see whether I get 1-5 for the first half of the list or 6-10 for the second half. Having thus determined I'm using one half of the list, I roll a d10 to pick one player from that half, discarding players who already have a role, or rolls of ten. Complicated, right? but random, so it'll work).

If people wanna sign up for other games, please do so in a different thread to this. This one's gonna be hard enough to co-ordinate as it is :).

FINALISED PLAYER LIST:
  1. Kelric (ought to have immunity from first-round slaughter)
  2. Chaosraven
  3. Grundbegriff
  4. Cesare's Divine Spark
  5. CSL
  6. J.D.
  7. Gryndyl
  8. Leigh
  9. triggercut
  10. Ænima
  11. Remus West
  12. Jiffy
  13. Asharak
  14. Orinoco
  15. tru1cy
  16. msteelers
  17. Spiff
  18. Crux
NOTE:

Whatever role Kelric gets, I'm going to say that he's immune to wolf death on the first night, but after that is fair game. I don't think this should affect the odds in any dramatic fashion, so I think it's fair.

Right, let's roll some roles!

Ok, I know who you all are. Now to send out those fateful PMs!

------------------------------------------------

IT IS NIGHT

It has been many decades since the sleepy hamlet of Octopus-Over-Lordington was visited by the Werewolf curse. Back then, a fearful massacre eventually caught the fiends, and though they would forever more be haunted by the ghosts of those they killed in error and those they could not save, some few survived.

Those few went on to marry, have children and lead relatively happy lives, but whenever the moon was fullest, the nights at their darkest, and the howl of animals could be heard in the distance, those now old villagers would shudder.

And they would tell stories.

Octopus-Over-Lordington has now nearly doubled in population since the days before the wolf. Inbreeding, adultery, cuckoldry and poor bookeeping has led to no-one being quite sure who is deescended from whom, but it has long been rumoured that one had inherited the Sight which had in the ancestral past been so deftly weilded to save the village by the one called Crux.

While an inheritor of the Crux name still lives, almost anyone could have inherited his powers.

Seer or not, you all know of the Wolf.

Some of you may have dismissed it as the careless fancies of old men. Others thinking of it as a bedtime story, a cautionary tale told to the impressionable young to scare them into compliance, into not wandering the woods at night. Other of you believe.

Three of you know.

For the curse has visited Octopus-Over-Lordington again.

None of this, of course, was clear - until that fateful first night when the first body was found....

--------------------------------------------------

You may talk amongst yourselves. The wolves and seer should have their instructions soon.

If you have not now recieved a PM instructing you otherwise, you are an innocent villager. ANyone in doubt about their status should contact me via PM. You may also PM me with rules queries.

I will not drop hints in my narration, nor will I aim to misdirect - it is for flavour only. Restrict you evidence to the known facts (who has died and what they were) and what other players have told you, either in private or in public. Keep in mind there are no rules against lying - in fact, it's damn near essential)

You may talk, if you want.
