DVD Burner software and media suggestions
Having just acquired a Pioneer DVR-108, I'm looking for software (the cheaper the better) and media suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sonic's RecordNow that was pre-installed on my HP has worked well for me, although it doesn't give you endless options like some others do.
And the cheaper media has also worked well for me.
Just watch out with Verbatim's mail-in-rebates......they shafted me.

Nero and DVD Decryptor http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ (which also burns) are good software choices. DVD Decryptor is free even.
I am also looking for brands of reliable media, and from what I could tell, a lot of it is just luck on finding media that works for your burner and your reader.
Check out http://www.videohelp.com for a handy database of media ratings. The opinions for the most part are very widely varied though.

I'll second DVD Decrypter* and there always seems to be a use for Nero.
Media wise I've found that the Ridata/Ritek brands seem to be the best all around brand of media to buy and there are often great sales on them at Newegg.
I have yet to find a recorder out of 4 tries that will work with the CompUSA house brand and my Memorex are hit or miss, sometimes even on the same recorder disc to disc. Fujifilm didn't work that well for me either. I also like the +R/RW format better as it seems to work a little faster than the -R/RW on my drives.
* In keeping with the spirit of OO use this only to make backups of your own DVD's.

Strange, I have the above mentioned Pioneer DVR-108 and have had zero problems burning to the CompUSA house brand (the -R type). I've burned about a dozen discs with Nero without a hiccup. Granted, I was just burning data discs and haven't attempted a movie disc yet so I don't know if my luck will hold.Rich in KCK wrote:I have yet to find a recorder out of 4 tries that will work with the CompUSA house brand and my Memorex are hit or miss, sometimes even on the same recorder disc to disc. I'd send you my blanks but it would probably cost more to ship them than they are worth. I did just get a new DVD 5001 recorder back from Lite-On after mine broke and haven't tried using them again on it so they may work now.Biyobi wrote:Strange, I have the above mentioned Pioneer DVR-108 and have had zero problems burning to the CompUSA house brand (the -R type).
