Someone donated a bunch of old computers to my school/church and I am trying to install windows 2000 pro on them. The problem is the old TNT cards have conflicts in 2000. My research tells me that a switch to an ATI cards will clear up the problem. I'm looking at the lots on ebay of video cards, but can't tell which is better.
How do the following rank?
Rage 3d Pro
Rage IIc
Rage pro turbo
rage 128
Is any significantly better than the other? Thanks.
Any experts on older ATI video cards?

Most of the round-ups I can find don't go back that far (neither do most of the tech sites). Here's Anandtech's article on the Rage 128: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=1054

Hey dobberhd! long time, no hear!
try here to find out what chip has what capacity.

I would buy whatever board has a decent amount of ram on board, but I wouldn't go hog wild on the price as none of them were particularly good at 3d. If you are going to use Alice however, http://www.alice.org/
I would go for the greatest amount of ram i could get.[/quote]

Since the latest Forceware drivers works for TNT, are you STILL SURE there are conflicts with NVIDIA TNT cards with Win2K? Currently using 40.19, but I'm using Win98.

Yup. There are very definitely problems with certain old NVIDIA cards and windows 2000. I had to buy a new video card in 2000 for exactly that reason. I can't remember if it was my Riva 128 or my TNT 2 that I had to replace.Kasey Chang wrote:Since the latest Forceware drivers works for TNT, are you STILL SURE there are conflicts with NVIDIA TNT cards with Win2K?
