Gaming Nirvana

Post by Kael »

I got my new computer yesterday. 2 Gig of ram, 3.2 Mhz Pentium 4 HT processor, 19" flat screen, surround sound, etc etc etc. I am jumping between Everquest 2 (the game looks amazing running on a high end box) and Half Life 2 and loving life. The biggest improvement was probably the least expensive, the surround sound with a $200 set of logitech speakers. Its an amazing experience sitting between them all listening to the Half Life 2 world talk, move and explode around me.

If you are playing Half Life 2 and you don't have surround sound you are missing out.

Congrats! I know exactly how you feel. The first time I got a high-powered rig I got Half-Life with it and let me tell you, those next few days were the good-life for me.

Shit, the first time my lowly 400 Celeron ran Half-Life I was a happy mofo!

The game that sticks out in my mind though, is Asheron's Call 2, circa 2003 on my 'new' rig.

When i climbed a lookout tower and wached a sunrise......gaming nirvana. :)

Ah, this brings to mind the bliss of running Doom on my 486 SX/25 with 4 megs ram AND 512 kb on some kind of video card. Yes there was a day when I didn't have the vaguest clue what brand of video card I had, nor could I figure out WTF a VESA driver was for the longest time.

Doom ran like a dream though at glorious 320 X 240! I was stunned by its brown beauty.

Gaming nirvana for me:

Discovering the dismemberment code for Jedi Outcast. I'm not a violent guy, but that was some incredible gaming.
