Help urgently needed-- how to uninstall a hosed RealPlayer?

Post by Papageno »

The install went wrong somehow, so I can't uninstall it the "official way" in Add/Remove Programs. Is it enough to delete the directories and the files in them, then the registry keys for RealNetworks under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE ? Will that exorcise this abomination from my computer?

Should I also uninstall and reinstall Firefox (the browser I was using at the time)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just another reason why I call it the RealVirus. That POS program doesn't wantyou to uninstall it.

I would recommend doing what you said, remove the folder, and the registry keys.

To repair file associations in Firefox, just install Real Alternative.

It will let you play Real files, without all the BS spyware, and aggressionware.

OK, I ended up going to a file in the setup directory called something like rp1clean.exe (read about it on a web forum) and that uninstalled it. Then I reinstalled it and uninstalled it the "legal" way, and installed the latest version of Real Alternative, as you suggest, Jeff.

Hmm, rp1clean.exe, interesting... Good tip and thanks for posting back with your solution, Papageno.
