So, I want to try out this SMAC game I hear so much about. I recently got hooked on Civ 3 and still am, but this sounds like a must have. Anyone have it for sale or trade?

I do have Civ 3 Gold available. (I have Complete... not for trade;))

What expansions are must haves for this game? The more the merrier I am sure... I'll update with my haves for trade soon.

I think I have a copy, but I do recommend searching the PIFF thread first.

I still have a copy you're welcome to have in the PIFFage thread.

If you'd like the game with the manual and the official strategy guide let me know.

There's one expansion, Alien Crossfire. Prior to its rerelease in the Laptop Collection, Alien Crossfire was a much-sought commodity capable of garnering a Franklin on eBay.

In any event, many and perhaps most SMAC addicts would tell you that the game is better (exquisitely tuned and largely unbroken) without that expansion. Try it in pure form first (patched if the version you receive isn't already patched); lace it with some Crossfire later if you must.

I agree there. I really enjoyed the game when it first came out, but didn't connect with it as much after I bought Alien Crossfire. Taking out the Pirates or Roze just wasn't as fun as pounding Sister Miriam or Chairman Yang.

With all the recent SMAC-talk I've decided it's high time to try me some SMAC again (man, look at the PUNS!). Although I've played all the Civ titles to death I never got into SMAC so I'm looking for a copy to try again. I've checked the PIFF thread but no joy there so I'm wondering if anybody has a copy they're willing to part with. Thanks!

Fafhrd over at Console Gold's PIFF thread offered one in January. I haven't checked to see whether anyone claimed it. You should e-mail him.

Thanks, I checked it out but it appears to be the jewel case copy, ie no printed manual. *cry* Hell, the manuals for Sid's games are half the fun!

SMAC has a fantastic manual, but it's pretty difficult to find a CD/manual/techtree combo these days.

Meanwhile, you could always use other resources -- esp. Velocyrix's fantastic guide, which evolved into a published gameguide. Its discussions of strategy and tactics are superior to those in the manual.
