Grr. Outlook Express is very slow to start up.
I'm guessing it's because I renamed the Messenger folder to "DisabledMessenger" because I don't want that stupid little program to start up every time OE does. Weird part is, that's been the case for a while but only recently did OE get so slow to start up. I think I might have screwed something up when I ran Norton WinDoctor recently.
Anyone know of a good free email client I could use as an alternative to OE?

Search for a program called OpenTrap, which will monitor all program attempts to open files and registry, and you can tell if there are any failures.

I've had decent experiences with Mozilla Thunderbird so far.Papageno wrote:I'm guessing it's because I renamed the Messenger folder to "DisabledMessenger" because I don't want that stupid little program to start up every time OE does. First time poster so be gentle guys/gals/other..
I believe that the following registry edit is possibly what you need to elliminate the slowdown in Outlook, you can find it yourself on p125 of Windows XP Tweaking Companion
I hope this is what you were looking for.

FIX OUTLOOK EXPRESS SLOWDOWN
If you have disabled MSN Messenger either in Group Policy or the Registry Editor (See relevant sections)
then you may experience slowdowns when launching Outlook Express. To resolve this problem, implement
the following change to your Registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID]
{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
Find this key and under it select the folder IniProcServer32. In the right pane of the Registry Editor
double‐click on the (Default) entry at the top and completely delete the data it contains. Now do the same
for the LocalServer32 folder as well. This prevents the slowdown which some users experience with
Outlook Express when MSN Messenger has been disabled.

Mozilla Calendar (aka Sunbird)Clanwolfer wrote:Thunderbird is definitely a major step up from Outlook; what extensions do you other Thunderbird users use? I haven't really looked for any, since I haven't felt the desperate need to, but I was the same way with Firefox until I found some great must-haves that I can't live without now.
