Is there any way we can get a color change, kind of like CG has as an option? All this white screen is burning out my eyeballs.

As answered
here and more appropriately, in the Metaforum, we announced that the site is currently in its rudimentary form and that there will be some formatting changes (which would include colors, or colours, if you're anonymous b0sch). Questions about the site or forum (like this one) belong in the Metaforum.

See, we just trim out the superfluous letters. Soon, all our posts will look like this:

I'm in love with this font enlarging feature.
And, no I'm not compensating for anything.

I like to post in this color because then people have to work harder to read what I post and if they have to work harder to read what I post then they'll appreciate it more and they will have to be clever to figure out how to read it so then I only get replies from smart people!
Edit: Hmm, too bad I got the darker grey background instead of the lighter one. I was thinking you'd have to highlight the text to be able to see it. Damn you phpBB, you have foiled my well laid plans once again!

And when they quote you they will really have to squint

Or press CTRL - A
I had my desktop gamma cranked up. I had no idea there were shades of grey. Everything looked white to me.

Actually, changing the text color to match the background like that is a really great way to post spoilers and not ruin anyone's day.

Though we're probably going to install that "spoiler" mod, which just adds a special set of tags for doing spoilers (which makes the text the same color as the background, and thus you need to highlight it with the mouse to see).
And this thread belongs elsewhere.

I've seen that on other forums and think it's a great idea!

Count me very much in favor of the spoiler tag mod!

Damn, I could have sworn I moved this. I'm moving it to the meta forum now.
Oh, and I'm assuming that's how the spoiler tag works, but I could be wrong. But really, how else would it work? I've seen other forums with it as well. A nice feature.

Some kind of choice for the color scheme would be great, even if the other choice sucks. I keep forgetting if I'm reading OO or QT3.

I hear this loudly and clearly. I keep forgetting which forum I'm reading with the current color scheme myself.
Hopefully soonish? (I'm not doing anything related to the color schemes, so I can't really comment on them at all. Gedd is working on it, but that dude's got a lot on his plate right now.)

I'll put installing an alternate them on the list.

This place definitely needs the old GG colors as an option. As it stands, I feel like I'm at the Qt3 forums when I'm here (well, except for all the OctOs/former GGers).
But features like the spoiler tags are definitely welcome.

Since my idiotic post that sparked the conversation about spoiler tags I just want to chip in with something actually useful to this thread and say that I think a spoiler tag function would be great.

In general, the sooner subSilver can be put to death (or at least, made not to be the only option), the better. Few things in life are as bland as a phpBB with default subSilver...

We just don't believe in using 7 letters when 6 will suffice.

Not likely. We're not Gonegold. We can't be.
OTOH, whenever we decide on a "definitive color scheme", we'll probably offer a light on dark & dark on light version. In the mean time, we;ll probably throw a few styles up just for fun.

Feel free to ignore this, but I've seen that said a few times, and it's starting to intrigue me.
Why not, exactly? No one is suggesting plastering the logo everywhere or making Tiny Fuzz our mascot. We're talking about using the same colour scheme.
Did Rich take out a patent on gold-on-black website design while I wasn't looking? And even if he did, are we seriously afraid he's going to sue us for trying to build a site that is essentially an homage to what he created?

Mods/Owners can feel free to step in to correct me at any time:
As I understand it, Rich owns everything GoneGold, content included.
That doesn't mean a Black and Orange forum couldn't be recreated...
BUT - this is a fresh start. I think it's been well established that GG is dead and she's not coming back. I don't think anyone is looking to recreate GG, but rather use the former GG community to create a NEW site, with similar content (PC Gaming, etc...).
What purpose would it serve to have a Black and Orange color here? This place isn't Gone Gold and it never will be - it's not trying to be.
Are you suggesting that when the new site content is revealed you will stop coming here if it doesn't look like Gone Gold?

No, Rich doesn't own a patent on Black & Gold, and a lawsuit isn't really the issue. Copying the GG forum colors & style would be an ethically questionable move, depending on where you are standing. More importantly, it isn't really desireable. Gonegold is gone, and dearly missed. No point in acting like it still exists.
As Smoove says, it's time for something new. We may be similar to Gonegold spritually (after all, nobody owns a patent/trademark/or other IP on great communities, nor on generic content themes). There's not much to be gained by trying to look similar to it.

Fair enough. Like I said, I was mostly curious. I'd heard comments similar to yours a few times and was starting to get the impression there was some serious (and consequently possibly pseudo-legal) tabboo about connecting this site with the GG of old.
As long as there is some generally dark-coloured scheme to resonate with my black heart, I'll be happy.

So you're a no on the pink-on-yellow theme, then?

(Sorry, you posted this when I was working on my last one, so I didn't notice it til now) Not at all - I was just inquiring why I was getting the impression there was more than a casual aversion to the site's legacy. Heck, I can live with the subSilver scheme; I'm reading the text, not the background colours, ultimately.
Peacedog wrote:So you're a no on the pink-on-yellow theme, then?
Now we're understanding each other. I like this wooden desk - I really don't want to have to vomit on it.

i think a 'octopus-themed' color scheme would be neat, like grey and pink, or brown and pink (hehehe) or grey and purple, or red and gray...
