Signs of HD failure?

Post by Ranulf »

Not what I needed to have happen right now... sigh. My HD lately has been having freezes and seems to be the cause of a bluescreen or two. A couple of days ago I let it run overnight and in the morning it showed up with an screen error of "inaccessable boot device" and file system error that I fixed using 2k's repair function so I could at least access the OS. It seems to freeze when doing virus scans or scandisk, anything HD intensive. Event log keeps showing and error with " The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block. "

Any advice? Anyone have any utilities they recommend? Drive is a maxtor and I found a scan utility of theirs to try. At least the warranty is still good.

Backup all your data, buy a new HD and return the old one against warranty.

Or open it up and dig out the bad block with a screwdriver. Look for the gray one.
