Werewolf/Vampire/"Village" games are the easiest to pick up and play as participation is not constant and a n00b can simply lay back.
Diplomacy would be steepest learning curve as it has the most underhanded play.
D&D is middle of the road, to an extent it's easier than the village games because it is PVE, but your absence is much more obvious and thus participation is more important.

I would argue that participation is much more important in Diplomacy than any of the other games as missing one turn can alter the entire game.

Actually, it stands for "Leeches Freed Grenoble."
Although, I am looking for a good forum game to participate in. I just don't know any rules of anything, which is a problem. Is there a thread that I can view the rules of the different games? I would be ever so grateful.

/shrug. rules are posted at the beginning of all the games cept for diplomacy which grund/remus/chaos posted strats on already in a solo thread.
as for the village games, pick one. rules posted at front. strategy discussed throughout the thread, ignored, discarded, exploited then mocked and the games ends with everyone gettin a -1 to INT.

you don't need to "know" anything to play a village game. you just join in. do somethin stupid. get killed for it. then wait for the next game to start.
what's to learn?

If you read the start of the currently running Lars WW game that should give you an good basis for the rules for those games but basically they work like this:
There are two sides - Good/Evil
The Good guys are trying to find and kill the Evil before they Evil can reduce the number of Good guys down to a managebale number (equal)
The game goes in phases night/day
During the night cycle the bad guys choose one of the other guys to kill.
During the night cycle the Seer (Good guy) chooses a player to find out about and is told their side. i.e. Seer Remus asks about player LordMortis and is told he is Evil. The next night Remus asks about Eel Snave and is told he is good.
During the day the group decides who they think is Evil and lynch(kill) that player. This is done by majority rules voting.
If the Good guys manage to kill the Bad guys they win.
If the Bad guys manage to reduce the number of Good guys to equal their own then they win (as the good guys will never win a vote after that).
Other roles (such as the Hunter, Sorcerer, Mentalist, Cabal in Lars' game) alter these basic ideas but do so on a game by game basis.

I've been giving serious thought to starting up a D&D forum game over here, but I have a couple of other PbP D&D games going on another site, and I'm pretty busy with work right now, so I'm not convinced I can handle the extra work load and still keep my relationship intact.

I certainly like the storytelling format going on in the Vampire RPG. Very readable. Makes me wanna stretch my legs and do some real RP. Too bad my plate is full or I woulda joined in.
I'd say that's how it should be done tho. Keep the dice rolls and ooc discussion in a different locale and leave the forum thread for actual "events and RP".

I'm running two PbP games over at the Paizo site, and it's set up well for that. They have a specific PbP in-game and a PbP-out of game section. Plus, the site allows you to set up unlimited aliases, so players can create a specific alias for each character, and the GM can set up any aliases he wants for NPCs (although I try to keep that to a minimum - Don't want to be too gimmicky).

I didn't want to create a separate thread for this yet so I decided to post this in here and see what the interest would be.
I would like to host a game.
It would be a basic Werewolf game with all the roles being the same Werewolfs, Sorcerer, Seer, Priest, Cabal, Hunter. I think it would be nice to go back to playing the original roles as a change from what we have been doing the last few games. However, there are some story elements that I would like to include in the game but I can't give them out ahead of time.
I think it would be fun for those who joined. If enough people are cool with me running a game and are interested (please respond here or PM me) then I will create a separate thread for the game.
Thanks all!!

Dude, you don't need to ask permission to run a game. Start up the thread and they will come.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments. I will create the thread and coordinate with everyone on when it can start. I will put a basic rule set up and people can comment. Changes are welcome as I am not nearly as experienced as you.

One piece of advice, after you make your rule set stop and think up ways to "break" it. My first game I put a bunch of powers in there that I thought would be fun (I still think they were) but that broke the game and made it almost impossible for the Bad Guys to win. Keep in mind that powers with the ability to publically prove themselves are very very powerful in and of themselves anything added to them cranks that power up.
