Dead/Stuck Pixels

Post by gorham09 »

I just got my first LCD screen and unfortuantely it has a/some dead/stuck pixels. The problem is I have no idea how to determine if what I am seeing is one dead pixel or perhaps a cluster of 3 or 4 pixels.

The monitor is a 19" with a 1280x1024 native resolution. Is there any rule of thumb to go by to tell if something is more than one pixel.

In my case what I am seeing is a very noticeable green dot. It is not earthshatttering, but I noticed it from the very second I turned the monitor on. Someone was telling me that one pixel on this monitor would be the equivalent of 1/4 the size of one of the periods in the colon (:) on the windows time display in the system tray. If that is true then I believe I do have a cluster of stuck pixels as the green dot that I have is at least the size of one of those periods.

Is there a way to determine how many pixels comprise a particular area?

A better first question is what is the return policy on your panel for dead pixels? Some places will exchange for a single dead pixel while others require multiple ones. If it's possible to exchange I would return it for one dead-pixel free.

You could open a paint/photo program and make an image that is 1 pixel by 1 pixel.

Thank's for the advice. It seems that my dead pixel problem has for the most part worked itself out. It definitely was a cluster of more than one pixel. My dot is now much smaller in size and what's left actually tends to flicker and fade out after the monitor is in use for awhile. It sounds silly, but I am very relieved. :)

On a side note I just realized what a colossal nerd I am. Last night before things just fixed themselves, my face was about three inches from my screen, staring at the monitor through a magnifying glass, trying to figure out how many pixels comprised my big green dot. If anyone could have taken a picture of that pathetic sight I would have to go into hiding.

Have you read any tips on fixing stuck pixels? I heard somewhere that you can take a q-tip and gently poke the area to see if you can get it to work itself out. Do a little google search and see what you can come up with.

I did actually. My pixel(s) are still stuck, but after the monitor has been in use for about an hour, if the stuck pixel doesn't fix itself, I have just very gently rubbed the area where the pixel is located with a soft cloth and the pixel has always "unstuck" itself.

My Dell 2001 has a group up of stuck pixels. I used to think it was one stuck pixel, until 2 other stuck pixels showed up and they were tiny. So I have one semi large cluster that I HATE. Anyway massaging it has done nothing.
