Octopus Overlords

My birthday is in a few weeks, and I'm not sure what to drop hints about. There aren't a lot of games right now that I'm desperate for, I have a solid system, and all of the controllers that I'm likely to need (two joypads, a Speedpad, and a joystick/throttle/rudder set). My console needs are likewise already met. What, then, should I get to satisfy my gaming gift urges?

I've considered a pair of those 3d glasses - the kind that create depth in your monitor by alternating frames and eyes. How well do these things work? What kind of slowdown do they cause? Are they comfortable enough to wear for a couple of hours at a go? Most importantly, can they be worn over prescription glasses? I wouldn't mind a recommendation for a particular model (I have a GeForce 6800GT if that makes a difference.)

On my previous graphics card upgrade, I got one of those 3D glasses package with the card. I used the glasses to look at the demo and tried out a game or two.

They then took up shelf space.

I wanted to get some of these a while back. I was unable to find a positive review of any of them. It's been a year or two though.

I have to use a trackball - using a mouse lets my carpals out of their tunnels.

I have a pair of Elsa Revelator wireless stereoscopic glasses that are currently collecting dust. I'd give them to you but they won't work until Nvidia releases new steroscopic drivers. Their old ones are not compatible with the 6600 and up cards. When I did use them I found them to be more a novelty than anything. I did find them enjoyable while playing Kiss: Psychocircus (I have no idea why, but they just seemed to work well with that game. I found these particular glasses to be a bit finicky in that while the effect generally worked in the game, it had the occasional side effect of screwing up menus or messing with the crosshair in FPS games to make them unusable.

i've also heard that some people have significant problems with headaches due to eye strain when they use those glasses. it doesn't affect everyone, but there are people who don't tolerate it well for very long...
