WW Viking Ship - GAME OVER - English Victory
FOREWORD
-Bamburgh Castle, Northumbria, England 791 AD
The man hurried up the stone stairs, the chill sea air blasting him from behind. As he approached the wooden door he gave a hurried nod to the guards on either side. As he entered the small, brick building a blast of heat radiated over him; the chill instantly gone. “Sir,” He said, instantly kneeling.
Oswcu looked up from a map he was studying. He motioned for him to stand. “What news ye bring me Edwin?”
“Sire, you recall the small boats that had been sighted near the holy island of Lindisfarne?”
“Yes. What of them?” Oswcu’s attention was fully on the man named Edwin. The King had given him special orders to make sure the Kingdom was safe from all threats. The King had trusted the safety of Northumbria to him, and he would not fail. He had to know all the threats to the kingdom, the machinations of its enemies, and any unnatural occurrences. So when strange boats were spotted near the Holy island, he had to investigate.
“I investigated them further as you instructed. I had some of my huntsman follow them.”
“And” Oswcu prodded, eyes boring in.
“Sir they travelled far to the North and East of here. Those boats belong to no kingdom on this land. They are of no tribe here. None. They came from lands across the cold seas. ”Edwin continued, “My huntsman got close to them and watched their tribes at work. It seems as if they were building more boats, bigger ones than those spotted. There were forges at work hammering axes and what looks like armor of sorts. It was unlike anything they had seen they said.”
Oswcu ‘s fingers tapped the wooden table. The news was unsettling. “The huntsman have returned?”
“Yes.”
“And they can find their way back?”
“Yes.”
Oswcu locked eyes with Edwin. “Edwin hear me now. Hear me good. I want you to send a small squad of men back. I want these men to watch these strange men. I want to know what they are doing. I want to know their leaders. I want to know everything about them. I want to know their language. I want to know their army size and strength. I want to know their army leaders. I want to know everything.” He paused looked deeply into the fire, “Edwin, I fear that this was only a scouting mission of theirs. These men you send; they must be brave.”
“Yes sire,” Edwin said. “ I shall do that now. One last thing sire.” Edwin paused until he knew he had Owscu attention. “One of the huntsman, was able to get close enough to listen to them; he thought he heard them call themselves “Vikings”.

Re: WW Viking Ship - Game thread - (CONSTRUCTION)
Code: Select all
The Vikings (the good)-
Shaman (Seer) – At night, in the midst of your evening meditations, the gods favor you with keen insight into a players true role. You may ask the gods “What is players X true role” (will reveal players specific role)
Weaponsmith (Hunter)– You are always armed! Always. Wether you are sleeping, eating, crapping , wax melting, or making mad monkey love; you have a weapon at your disposal at all times. As such 1 time per game you may choose to launch this weapon at a target of your choice. (May only be used during day periods)
Guardian (protector) – Each night you patrol to ensure everyone’s safety (also from each other). As such you can protect 1 player per night cycle; The same player cannot be selected on consecutive evenings. Protection extents into daytime and will counter a berserker attack; Protection wont prevent a lynch.
Funeral Pyre Maker (Coroner)– You are entrusted with ensuring that each warrior receives a fitting and glorious pyre after they’ve met their end. During these times you are able to perceive a dead players true nature. (May scan 1 dead player per night cycle to determine nature; can only scan most recent nigh kill or lynch)
Viking Warband (Unpowered Players)– Each of you are a fierce warrior selected for your raw power, dexterity, and savage nature. You are determined to bring glory for your family; and riches, many spending riches.
The English Saboteurs (wolves)
The Fighter (Berserker) – You won’t ever be stopped. Never! You will never give up. Even as you are lynched, you vow to bring a foe down with you. Upon lynch, you may choose one player to take to the grave with you.
Priest ( Evil seer) At night you pray and seek solace in the words of God. Through your ruminations of the holy scriptures you are able to reach a powerful insight into a players true nature. (May ask during night phase a person’s true nature)
The Magician (Emp power) - Once per game night cycle you may set off a powerful arcanic force that you can set off a evenings explosion. An explosion of such force prevents all other activity (except the night kill). The force of will need is such that you may only do this once during this journey (1 time power)
The Leader - Your role as lead of this expendition is to determine who to kill at night. Power is transferred to another player upon leader’s death. (Leader -> Berserker -> Priest -> Magician)

FAQ
Q-Will players know if the Magician has used his power?
A– Yes the force of the explosion can not be ignored.
Q – Will Evil know the true roles of their night kills?
A- Yes . Yes they will learn wether they have killed the coroner, protector, seer…etc.
Q – What does the EMP interrupt?
A – EMP cancels ALL powers regardless of side except for the night kill (no seer scans, no protections, nothing)
Q – Can evil scan a player at night, and due to that information regarding a player choose to target that player.?
A- No. Evil must choose the night kill prior to any scan results from that night cycle. Results from scans will be returned to players as the dawn is breaking. All scans, kills and protections will be returned at the same time, closely followed by the dawn breaking.
Q- When does the Weaponsmith power take into effect.
A – As soon as order is submitted it is valid and that player will be terminated. IF a lynch occurs prior to termination, that player will be killed, even if a lynch as occurred. The power once used (ie Mod receives the order) can not be rescinded, so choose wisely.
Q- Can the EMP deny the protectors daylight protection?
A - The EMP will only cancel the night protection. The Guardian's protection will still be valid during the daylight. So the guardian can still protect V. the fighters berserker ability.

RE: Time limits
I've thought this over some and I will adopt the following.
1. Generally I prefer to let players work things out. A laissez faire approach if you will, however if things are dragging on, say day 1 is over 12 days, or day 4 is more than 8 days then I will adopt a time limit. I do not have a hard set deadline in mind, simply if i think things are stalled, deadlocked or have dragged on long enough. It's like the old saying "It's like pornography, you know it when you see it".
MY time limits solution:
1. Deadline will last a total of 2 days. (48 hours).
2. There will be warnings that you are approach the deadline phase, most likely 24 hours prior to invoking the deadline.
3. Once I invoke the deadline players will have a hard 48 hours deadline.
4. Once the 48 hours have passed with no resolution, I will use random.org to select the lynch.
5. The deadlines will generally be late pacific time most likely 10 PM pacific time.
For example....
I will warn on Monday at 10 PM pacific that the deadline phase is looming. You have in effect 72 hours to select a lynch. Tuesday evening at 10 PM i will state you have entered the deadline phase and on Thursday at 10 PM pacific random.org will select the lynch.

Night 1 - The Preparation
Drums beat slowly as the villagers filed into the meeting hall. Quiet whispers murmured throughout but then ceased as the chieftain merged from behind the hide curtain. He took a long moment of silence as his stare penetrated the villagers before him.
Then he spoke, “The time is now my brothers and sisters. For the last six months we have planned, and prepared ourselves for this moment. And that moment is tomorrow’s high tide. Tomorrow we begin to make things right with the Christian traders. To think they cannot trade fairly and honorably with us? That they insist we must praise their god to make a fair deal. I say NO! And they will hear us. They have a holy city, one named Lindisfarne. We strike there and without mercy. We take the riches from that city, we take their food and we will take their women. And they will know their god cant protect them from us.” The village stayed quiet as the Chieftain continued.
“Tomorrow we launch our brave warriors at the enemy. They will fight in our name; so I ask those who are staying to honor them tonight. Honor them; fill them with courage so they will go forward in the heat of battle and not flee like cowardly dogs. Honor them so they will know who they are fighting for.”
He paused dramatically, taking a long look at the chosen warriors. “I looked upon you my brave warriors. Tonight feast, wench and drink. Tonight is for you my brave warriors. You are the face of things to come. You will bring glory, you will bring riches back, you will be victorious.” The chieftain roared. And the village exploded in energy as feet stomped, voice cheered and shields slammed on the ground. Tomorrow would be the dawn of their era. The era of the Viking!

Re: WW Viking Ship - Game thread - (night 1)
Ok, so logically I think the best way to identify who is a Viking and who is English would be to look at which language each person is speaking. The Vikings came from Scandinavia, so presumably they all speak scandinavian languages (I think they came mostly from Norway, but any scandinavian language is close enough I think). The English, of course, would all speak English.
Based on this it looks like the following players are Vikings:
4. Lagom Lite
8. Truicy
The following players appear to be English:
1. Purge
2. El Guapo
3. Remus West
5. Qantaga
7. Grundbegriff
9. Theohall
11. Coopasonic
12. Arcanis
13. Scoop
And the following players are maybes, based on their questionable Swedish language posts:
6. ChaosRaven
10. RMC
Hmmmmm....based on this analysis it appears that the English outnumber the Vikings and have won. Good game everybody!

Well, Norway, Denmark and Sweden were all Norse back then and shared the same culture and language.El Guapo wrote:The Vikings came from Scandinavia, so presumably they all speak scandinavian languages (I think they came mostly from Norway, but any scandinavian language is close enough I think).
Generally though:
Norwegians - seamen, explored far north west, Iceland, Greenland and maybe America (Newfoundland).
Danes - pillagers and traders in "Västerled" (England, France/Normandy)
Swedes - traders and mercenaries in "Österled" (Russia, Turkey)
Crudely speaking.

So Norwegians = Norway, Danes = Denmark, and Swedes = Sweden, right? Sorry geographically challenged on that side of the world. If you change your mind, I'm the first in line.
Honey I'm still free.
Take a chance on me.
If you need me, let me know, gonna be around.
If you've got no place to go, if you're feeling down.
If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown,
Honey I'm still free.
Take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it ain't no lie.
If you put me to the test, if you let me try.

You know, NO ONE in Sweden listens to them anymore. Not a soul. Everyone hates it, much like we never actually watch any Bergman movies, because they've become such national symbols that they're just regarded as really corny.Grundbegriff wrote:If you change your mind, I'm the first in line.

That is why is it called ez-mating, so folks don't think one thing simply because you appear to have suddenly changed. Re: WW Viking Ship - Game thread - (night 1)
Day 1 – High tide
The dawn broke quicker than expected. Some were still drinking ale as the sun poked over the horizon. Some coitally engaged. Others passed out. But it was clear, the festivities were over. The high tide was only hours away.
Purge cracked his eyelights open as streaks of sun shone upon him. Next to him Remus West was hunched over fast asleep. Purge gave Remus a push, “Get up, we need to get to the longboat, wake El Guapo will you” he grunted. He then downed the rest of his ale, and headed to the longboat.
“Yeah,” Remus said and gave El Guapo a push who groaned. Remus stood, stretched and stumbled over to the Longboat where the other members of the war band were milling about.
Chaosraven was carrying the last sack of dried meats when he passed Lagom Lite who was inspecting the bow. “Have we named her yet?”
Lagom Lite looked over “The chieftain said the Dragon.”
Over by the tidal rocks Qantaga was bent over, he slid his finger across a marker, then looked at the water level. They didn’t have much time left. He turned and yelled. “The high tide will be coming soon, we need to get ready.”
As Chaosraven hoisted the bag up to Grundbegriff he said. “I’ll make sure we’re all here.”
Grundbegriff took the sacks and shoved them into a compartment. Next to him Truicy was making the final adjustments on a rowing chest.
Theohall had watched a rat follow Chaosraven to the boat. With a quick flick of his sword and jazz hands he killed it.
Chaosraven was worried. He’d only counted 12, someone was missing. He couldn’t find Scoop. “Anyone see Scoop?”For a moment no one said anything, then Arcanis yelled, “I saw him hooking up with the sheepherders daughter last night.”
Coopasonic yelled back “That might be, but he’s late. He’s never late!”
“We need to find him!” RMC said and the group then rushed to his hut, Scoop wasn’t there. They then ran to the sheepherders hut, and looked in. The sheepherder was there, but his daughter and Scoop weren’t.
Suddenly an annoyed shout came from the long boat, “Why isn’t anyone ready? Isn’t it almost high tide? Shouldn’t we be at oars.” Everyone looked back at the Dragon and saw an annoyed Scoop. A collective sigh of relief could be heard, as they rushed back and started boarding the Dragon.
As Arcanis ran back he saw El Guapo still passed out. “Damn lazy son of a dung maker.” He reached over and shook him. El Guapo’s head rolled back, eyes vacant, a slow drool of blood escaping his mouth.
“Son of a Dungmaker!” Arcanis exclaimed as he saw a pig skewer shoved deep in El Guapo’s gut.
Lagom saw Arcanis stumble, but more importantly saw the Chieftain headed to the Dragon. Time was up, he yelled “LETS GO Arcanis LETS GO!” Arcanis ran back to the long boat, suddenly very worried.
