How in the HELL is there no thread for this show already?! What is wrong with you people!?
Seriously, just the double episode last night justifies the thread existence. Patton Oswalt plays a small town "patriot"/nerd, who filibusters a town council meeting using Star Wars/alt universe lore, and actually ends up throwing in Marvel at some point. Add a healthy dose of Game of Throne references/jokes (completely separate), and the double episode was win/win in my book.
Of course most of that was edited out in the actual episode, but still... "Chewbacca's not dead, he WILL come back!"

I can't stand it. It's completely implausable that they would manage to maintain a functioning public department with what happens on the show day in and day out. I mean you have to wonder if it's not actually scripted most of the time.
Who is Patton Oswalt?

A pretty smart comic (even though I rarely laugh).

If that was for me, I do believe he is smart - I like him on podcasts - I just don't find the stuff I've heard very funny. I can appreciate it, I just don't laugh.

I love Parks & Rec. Sometime last year it surpassed Community as my favorite sitcom (I love Louie as well, but it's in a whole different vein). I can't recall a single episode since the 1st season that I didn't enjoy.

I've never heard of him either. Do like Parks & Rec though. Great ensemble cast.
Ron Swanson: The only thing I hate worse than lying is skim milk. Skim milk is water lying about being milk.

Heh, that was an amazing filibuster in that Parks and Rec video. I love when solid comics ad lib work and it comes together.
Not much of a fan of the show, but it's not bad now and again.

Nope, for LB, sorry...I tend to not quote when I should.
I know him best from the sitcom King of Queens, but he also has had some awesome cameos in a lot of different series (like this in Parks and Rec). He's also the voice of Ratatouille if you have kids. I saw one of his stand up shows and thought he was better than average I guess, but not blow my mind, "OMG you have to watch this!" like some I have seen recently.
Nominated for a Grammy at one point for one of his standup performances, but I don't think I have seen it. Should probably track that down.

Thank you for starting it's own thread. Believe we have talked about it in other threads but again, it is a show that stands out for sure!
Here is an interview from The Paley Center, 2012, five minutes, a little bit on many things Parks and Rec. Please notice all of the other clips to watch once you click on the link

Patton Oswalt, in my opinion, is one of the funniest (and smartest) comics working today. That he's able to branch out into drama (The Fan, Justified...although he was still rather comical in that last one) just goes to show how talented the man is. He's at C2E2 (a pop culture convention) in Chicago next Saturday and I bought tickets primarily in hopes of getting him to autograph one of his books.

Hep! Knew Patton looked familiar but for the life of me...
Think from now on, my phrase for anyone that I think, maybe I've seen before and not sure where, "betcha it is Justified!"
Good luck with the book signing, let us know of the success.
Adding, how I should of known,
Believe Patton brought the Chewie name into the last episodes of Justified too. Know it was mentioned in the Justified thread but I'm typing on on my phone and don't have the energy to search and link. Anyways, should of known.

Didn't know who Oswalt is and still don't.
As for the show, you tell me if you don't think reality TV has gone too far. It's painfully obvious that half the stuff is faked. That or the police and voters in Pawnee are completely stupid.

How about a link to a standup routine or other appearance supporting your opinion for those of us who don't know who he is? Teach me.

How about his input on the Boston Marathon bombing?
I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."
But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.
But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.
But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.
So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."
But when all is said and done, I'm a fan and that's all that matters to me.

I remember when the Blair Witch documentary came out. You spent two weeks holed up in your home. Then that other documentary, Paranormal Activity, was released and you spent the next two weeks living on the sidewalk in front of your building. I've told you a thousand times before, but it bears repeating:
You've got to buy Ghost Insurance from me. It's the only way you're going to be able to provide for your family after you get taken by the dead!
Of course most of that was edited out in the actual episode, but still... "Chewbacca's not dead, he WILL come back!"
The bit in the show was great, but that was epic. Thanks for linking.
Trivia for fellow VA folks: Oswalt graduated from the College of William & Mary, as did Jon Stewart.

OK, NOW you're messing with me, right?
Are you thinking of the same show I am thinking (of)? Nothing to do with reality TV.

I really, really enjoyed the last episode of Parks and Rec -- essentially a two-hander with Leslie and
Spoiler:
. It was funny, ridiculous, and warm-hearted -- everything that makes the show great.
This final season is bopping along quite nicely.

Fast-forwarding two years was disorienting at first; we wondered if we'd missed a season. I liked the way they caught us up on everybody's elapsed stories, though, especially the April-and-Andy crisis. "Would a boring person buy renter's insurance even though it's not required?"

I thought Werner Herzog's cameo (the guy selling the creepy house) was one of the best things ever. It made me wish for an alternate universe where they'd had him on in an early season and he turned into a recurring character, however unlikely that would have been.

Episode 4 was probably one of the best Park and Recs yet. This season has been great so far. They are clearly not just going through the motions, but really doing something clever with the time shift and bringing an emotional conclusion to their lives.
The part where Ron carved his old office key out of wood from memory just killed me.

He would have been perfect as April's long lost Dad.

My DVR recorded Ep 3 but failed to record Ep 4 that immediately followed. Thankfully, Hulu to the rescue.

DAMMIT. I accidentally paused the most recent episode about 10 minutes in while viewing via DVR, then hit DELETE instead of SAVE.
SONOFA....I really hope they rerun these soon, or find a home on Netflix or Amazon if they aren't already (but I imagine those are quite behind).

Guess I should track them down online this week and ask my DVR why it decided not to record them. Must be a conflict with something else.

We went back and watched Ben's laugh three times! Best fake forced laugh ever! I haven't laughed that hard since I heard about the buckshot (?) forced fed jumping frogs Mark Twain wrote about (according to Drunk History).
Anyways, great writing. Those actors have owned the Parks and Rec characters. Ben... Sublimely done Mr. Scott.

We just finished watching this. Binged the last season last night and tonight. We both cried when Ron was paddling. So perfect for him. We're going to terribly miss that show, ugh. So funny.
I always loved when Jean Ralphio showed up! All the characters were just so memorable and funny and special. Gah. I already miss it so much.

P&R had one of those rare ensemble casts where everyone pulled their weight. Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson, April Ludgate, Andy Dwyer, Ann Perkins -- all of them were great characters. Loved that show.

We're ripping through this now. Midway through season 4. My favorites TV comedy in a long, long time (at least since 30 Rock). It strikes hits that crazy sweet spot of being both incredibly warm-hearted and sublimely funny at the same time. All the characters are, down deep, really nice people and treat each other accordingly. Except for Gary. Poor Gary (i.e. Jerry).
