Awesome covers

Post by Rumpy »

Every once in awhile, a cover will come along that takes a crappy song and turns it around into an awesome song. Came across this cover of Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" a few days ago, and while I can't stand the song playing on the radio, I can't stop playing this one:

I thought we had a song cover thread somewhere around here but I couldnt find it for some reason. Maybe it got lost in the Great Outage of '13.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

I can't let a covers thread go by without pimping my all-time favorite cover band, Big Daddy. Hear them cover Celine Dion and Barry Manilow

Oh yeah, and Whitney Houston, too.

Nice find Rumpy. Love that girl singing lead. Her bluegrass version of blurred lines was interesting.

Yeah, everything in that feed is rather good, though the first one is my favourite. Overall, great sense of arrangement. It's amazing what a change in style can do to a song.

Another good one from the same guy is a mashup of Gershwin and Bomehian Rhapsody (Bohemian Rhapsody in Blue):

I seem to remember the earlier thread, but I can't find it.

One of the greatest of all covers is Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails' Hurt, beautiful and devastating at the same time.

I think there was a thread of covers you like in spite of hating the original, which is a very different creature from just great covers.

I always loved seeing Our Mercury play "Ain't No Sunshine".

Big Daddy's last release was a track-for-track cover of Sgt. Pepper, each song cut in the style of a different artist. Their crowning glory was the final one.

Yeah, definitely agree. I couldn't remember if we already had a thread for that though. But there are lots of great covers here.

Nice. That song in particular really made me realize in the first place how a band can really turn things around. My personal favourite cover of that song is Nickel Creek's live version.

 Jack White.

But that's making me think of a collaboration he did that someone linked a long time ago and I can't find it. It was him on stage with a few other famous people and he just blew them away on what I think was an old song. Grr, this is going to bug the shit outta me.

Nope that was the first thing that came up on my search too. I think it was just some special event they had or something. I'll do some more looking tonight, lol.

Edit - Found it, lol. It wasn't quite what I thought (I'm not sure where I got that Jack White blew them away, it wasn't like that).

Since it just came up on Pandora, and the wife pointed me to this thread, Patty Griffin's cover of Springsteen's Stolen Car.

Though, now that I've looked through the thread, it's not exactly a candidate considering that the original is pretty boss. (yes, that was intentional :ninja: )
