Dishonored 2
What do you do with a drunken sailor...
So happy this was announced. My favorite game from 2012. Not sure how I feel about having Corvo still around. I though the first game wrapped up his story-line nicely, would have preferred if it was just Emily or an entirely new character within the world.
Either way though, super excited.

Yeah, I'm wondering if you just choose a character to run through the campaign, or whether you change between missions, or whether you'll be sharing missions thus requiring replays.
I prefer a narrative setup where you're bouncing between characters, getting more story and perspective, instead of choosing early before you even know who is who and being locked into that character for a campaign.
But, I think the decision has to do with allowing players a choice between male and female.

Im not sold. The videos made the first one out to be some new amazing ride. But when I played it I found it just ok. Nothing special to it and before the end I actually got tired of it and walked away. I had to force myself back to it after a month or more to just finish it. Not really interested in a new one but if it changes stuff I might. Also didn't like that how you played the first one is the ending you got. I killed a lot of people ya...thats my play style. But I was a good guy and stayed that way yet because of my lack of liking full on stealth I got a bad ending....or at least what I considered a bad ending. I had to watch YouTube to get the ending I deserved.

During the after show they said you'll only play one throughout the game but they have a bit different story, so it should help make a 2nd replay more enticing.Turtle wrote:Yeah, I'm wondering if you just choose a character to run through the campaign, or whether you change between missions, or whether you'll be sharing missions thus requiring replays.

Re: Dishonored 2
Despite all the bad things going on, killing people in the world is still seen as morally reprehensible, which, if you notice throughout your play through, results in people reacting to you in fear and disgust. Most people in levels are not bad, just people trying to survive in a crappy situation. If you listen in on conversations you will hear that most don't have any other choice. If you try not to kill people, a lot of NPCs treat you much differently. Not only that but causing more death and chaos led to more drastic measures by the government, which in turn leads to more starvation, death, plague and rat swarms. The game actually adjusts the types of enemies you encounter based on your choices.Daehawk wrote:Also didn't like that how you played the first one is the ending you got. Not to mention that you were supposed to be a moral beacon for Emily. The bad ending wasn’t so much bad as just the result of Emily growing up and continuing to rule in an effective yet cruel manner by your example.

Re: Dishonored 2
I tried to do no kill, but I ended up offing a few less savory types. Although I loved the poetic justice elements you could do the conspirators. Some of those were just as horrific as death though.
I'm really hoping that there's a way to do no kill, or just less lethality, when fighting up front though. Stuff like mirror's edge style disarms and knockouts. It'd just be nice to be able to play aggressively, without feeling like a mass murderer. They could link these non-lethal moves to extra moves that require skill to execute.
Other cases, such as being able to kneecap people and such.

Really liked the first, so I'm in for 2. I don't think it did anything groundbreaking, but the gameplay was solid and enjoyable which is my numero uno priority for a game

I don't know if you played it, but the expansion content (Knife of Dunwall & Brigmore Witches) added some additional non lethal options. Nonlethal options still weren't extensive but added a bit more variety.Turtle wrote: I'm really hoping that there's a way to do no kill, or just less lethality, when fighting up front though.
If anyone hasn't played those expansions you should pick them up NOW. They were released for about $10 each, and taken together, made up single connected expansion as long as the base game with quality that would rival expansion packs from years long past.

Enjoyed and finished the first. Nothing earthshattering about it, but intriguing and fun enough to keep me playing. Looking forward to the second. Haven't done the DLC so will probably do that this summer as a warm up.

Nothing before or after the infamous party mission in Dishonored was worth it (IMHO). If the new game is designed more like what they did for the party infiltration I'm in.

Hah, so Otherside Entertainment revealed something today I didn’t know. Back when Dishonored first came out I said it felt like a spiritual successor to the Thief series. The gameplay, characters, the setting, all of it felt like it could have been set maybe 100 years after Thief II. Well, turns out Stephen Russell, the original voice of Garrett, will be voicing Corvo in Dishonored II.

Never finished the first game on my Xbox 360 when I replaced it with my PS4 but I noticed that there's a PS4 Definitive Edition available. So I bought it and will have some catching up to do before the next one comes out. I may preorder the sequel since I did like what I've played of the first game and there is that preorder discount that Amazon Prime folks get.

It's unlocking a day early for Steam pre-orders, but I haven't seen any news on the exact timing. If it unlocks at 0000 EST on 10 Nov, then that 23 hours would be about right, and west of that time zone in Drumpftopia would be late on the 9th.coopasonic wrote:Steam shows the game available 11/9 for me now... that's unexpected.

Re: Dishonored 2
Played about 90 minutes or so but now work calls.
A lot of people on Steam are ripping the game's performance on - I guess they would be called older mid-range PCs - particularly complaining about performance on the GTX 970.
My rig:
i5-4460
16G RAM
GTX 970
I let the game play at its default settings. Only adjusting brightness, and turning the adaptive resolution up. Playing at 1080p. The game plays OK. I am not seeing crushing dips in framerate yet like others are reporting. It mostly stays around 60 FPS, with dips into 50s and occasionally 40s. I hear it's worse outside. I did get outside and that's where I see the odd dip to the high 40's. I frankly, would so far consider this to run better than Mafia 3.
As for the game - it's awesome so far. Feels and plays very much like the first one. Dishonored has sort of become the sequels to Thief for me since Dishonored was (IMO) better than Thief 3, and light years better than Thief (4). Having Stephen Russel doing the voice of Corvo is now the icing on the cake. Playing Corvo, and then may do an Emily play through where I bend my "no kills" rule. Still on the first mission and absolutely love it so far. Either I was stupid when playing Dishonored (twice) or they have added some new ways to knock people out using combat moves that used to only be lethal. (Drop Assassinate OR Drop Knock out for example).
Thumbs up, with the caveat that if 60 FPS lock is a must you may be pissed. Now I am late for work!

On the 2nd mission now. Definitely runs better indoors vs out. Not any kind of deal breaker for me.

My experience as well. While I haven't had the single digit framerate drops that some have, performance definitely takes a hit in outdoor areas.JCC wrote:On the 2nd mission now. Definitely runs better indoors vs out. Not any kind of deal breaker for me.
I played about 2 hours last night. Coming directly from two games whose stealth systems were entirely dependent on light/shadow dynamics (Aragami and Thief 3), I'm really struggling with Dishonored 2's more line-of-sight based system. Feels like I just never know when I'm actually hidden or not, which is frustrating. Equally frustrating when the guard 5 feet away can't see me, but his buddy suddenly charges at me from 100 yards away with the same sight line. I just can't quite wrap my head around it, but I'm sure it'll get better with practice. The world is still fantastic and the story is pretty interesting.
Probably my biggest disappointment so far has been Stephen Russell's voice acting. I chose the Corvo path mainly so I could hear him, but his delivery is remarkably awkward and stilted. He just kinda sounds...bored. Really unfortunate, and hopefully it improves.

Re: Dishonored 2
Compared to Rosario Dawson, Russel sounds like the life of the party! Dawson sounds like she recorded her lines right after rolling out of bed! Finished the 3rd mission which was great!
I think guards are a bit more aware in this compared to the first game. I think if you are in line of sight they are much more likely to see you. I am guessing that is due to the increase in powers you get. At some point in the future I may have to try a no powers play through (very cool they give you this option).
They have definitely gimped the "sight" power in this game compared to the first one. You have to be much closer to see people/objects through walls. It's somewhat frustrating since it was a crutch I used a lot in the first game. But, I also thought it was overpowered and almost a cheat (one I couldn't resist using, haha!).
Still very much enjoying this.

I think I may grab this for PS4, as there seems to be significant PC issues. That makes me sad, because I much prefer this type of game on the PC. I loved the first one, but for some reason stopped playing right before the end. I should probably go back and finish the game!

I haven't noticed issues yet, but I'm not far into the game yet at all. I didn't enjoy the blurry visuals during some of the cutscenes, but haven't noticed it during regular play. Otherwise, I'm enjoying it. I stopped a few minutes ago, because I expect the kids to be back soon, and was tired of playing. But I'm already getting the urge to jump back in and play a bit more.

Way, way shorter than I would have liked. Finished in 24 hours with Emily, Low Chaos.
Five total kills, one in the first mission that I didn't know about until the mission summary screen and four in the last mission, two kind of accidental and two for expediency. None against primary targets.
I can't imagine playing a low chaos play-through without powers.... and I wouldn't want to play high chaos... freaking blood flies.

I installed the beta 1.2 on Monday. It made a big improvement on frame rate but I think some graphical sacrifice was made to get it. I noticed some textures getting sharper as I got closer to the objects which I didn't recall seeing before. When I replay as Emily I will comment further. I'm currently on the 8th mission.

I finally picked it up. Game-play is as good as the original but I did have to mess with the settings to get it to be playable. The dynamic resolution seems to be the problem for a lot of people. Based on what you choose as your target frame-rate it will try to downscale the game in real time, the problem being it does a real bad job of it.
One other complaint is that, so far, I'm not liking the changes to the Outsider. I haven't encountered him a lot but in the original game he seemed reserved and inscrutable, here not so much. Change in voice actor doesn't help, the new one sounds a lot younger.
