games for lifting spirits

Post by Thunderspark »

What game do you play when you're feeling bummed out about something?

I usually try to find something easy, short, and pointless. Depending how bummed I am, I sometimes try something with some violence(like a fighting game).

I'll usually blare some music and play OOTP6 or I'll blare some music and play 'how many beers can I drink before I stumble into bed.'

When I feel the need to have a game distract me I usually bust out the Xbox and some NHL2k5. The ebb and flow of the game totally draws me in and I forget about other stuff for a while.

Katamari Damacy. How could that game not make you all cheery?

For the PC, I'll play a puzzle or other thinking game to take my mind off things. On consoles, I'll play something funny like Paper Mario.

For that, I play Zanzarah.

Otherwise it's one of these:

BloodrayneII (Xbox). Never fails to give me a laugh or two disposing of enemies off ledges or onto electrical boxes. Turn on gratutious dismemberment for even more fun.

MaxPayneII (PC). I play single player challenge games. Get some incredible cinematic moments as well as more laughs.

An NHL game, currently NHL2K5 (Xbox). Because it's hockey.

Counterstrike with the volume and subwoofer waay up. When I lived near an arcade, Time Crisis 2 was very good as an outlet for the blues.

When I'm feeling down, I just create a culture on a distant planet and wait until there's some solar flares so I can nerve-staple the drones.

Strange - when I'm blue, I don't feel like gaming. I usually want to get away from the computer and watch old movies (simpler movies for simpler times).

I guess I might try Freedom Force next time I get down. I can't imagine taking anything seriously while playing that. (Schmaltz...but very good schmaltz). "Strike for Freedom!" hehe...

Heheh...I've only played the demo for Freedom Force, but that would probably be a very good game in the situation.

Zuma.

It's hard to think about problems in your life when you've got a chain of balls about to fall into that pit any second.

For me it's any game. I think they are all fun and if I find one that isn't it gets uninstalled. I play all games to have fun and escape the real world. I thought that was the point.
