Allow me to re-explain, as I know you enjoy having certain things explained a few times.lokiju wrote:I didn't see a Dell with less than a 2.0+ ghz cpu and way too many extras and power for her parents...
No reason to be condescending Chris. I appreciate your help though. As it turns out, I have had a couple offers thus far for less than $25 shipping via UPS.ChrisGrenard wrote:Allow me to re-explain, as I know you enjoy having certain things explained a few times.lokiju wrote:I didn't see a Dell with less than a 2.0+ ghz cpu and way too many extras and power for her parents...
So, in conclusion, I have shown you that buying anything but a new computer (especially over the internet! Have you ever tried to ship a computer? Holy jesus, it was the worst experience I've ever had!) from Dell is crazy, and if you don't believe me, tell your wife to hit you over the head with a frying pan until you do believe me.
Thank you.
My apologies for the jab. It was late, and the thought of some of your previous threads were in my mind.lokiju wrote:No reason to be condescending Chris. I appreciate your help though. Hmmm, thanks Laura. I'm sure the package would have to be really, *really* secure.Laura wrote:We have shipped five computers for about $20 each. Three sustained damage with UPS, though only one was really serious. Make sure the CDROM drive cannot crash backward when they drop the package, which they were observed doing in at least two cases. It took out the motherboard. We shipped the last one with Fedex for $16 and it arrived in fine shape.
Heh, no big deal, I was just being sarcastic myself. I think that you might be thinking of newer systems with all the extra weight and trimmings? If you ship a system UPS ground with only the stock heatsink for the older cpu's (which were a lot lighter than newer HS's needed to cool 1.5+ ghz), 1 cd drive, and no monitor, it helps.ChrisGrenard wrote:My apologies for the jab. Suffice to say, if some OO'er can manage to send you a computer for only 25 bucks... holy crap is all I have to say. I don't even know how that is possible.
Well, if that's the case, go for it. Let's just pretend I was drunk (on power) when I made my last post.
Oh I know they have good deals...but Cathena's parents only need a 1ghz (maybe less) system, so I thought I'd see if anyone here had an older system they wanted to sell for much cheaper than us spending $300 on stuff she doesn't need.magic wrote:http://www1.us.dell.com/content/product ... l=en&s=dhs
should take you to a dell system for $299. If not, go to the dell Dimension 2400 page, and enter E-Value Code 6V590-D24F1
That is the rig i was referring to, including a 17 inch monitor, and basic setup of a 2.4GHz celeron, 256MB RAM, no burner, etc.
But aren't your in-laws worth it? Without them, your wife would not even exist. The economy needs you...lokiju wrote:Oh I know they have good deals...but Cathena's parents only need a 1ghz (maybe less) system, so I thought I'd see if anyone here had an older system they wanted to sell for much cheaper than us spending $300 on stuff she doesn't need.magic wrote:http://www1.us.dell.com/content/product ... l=en&s=dhs
