Jason Momoa is a go too. Supposed to be more book faithful. I loved the first two..not seen anything else if there is something...or maybe I saw a 3..not sure.
Hope he lives..seems The Crow stuff is a little cursed.

Isn't Jason Momoa too big to play the Crow?

What's size got to do with it? I think he'd be pretty good.

I believe that he was making a joke about Momoa playing the actual bird. I smirked. Of course, if that isn't what he meant, then never mind.

I actually agree with the definition that he seems a bit too muscle bound to play someone who's supposed to be your run of the mill musician who returns from the dead to avenge his murder. I just never got that vibe from the original comics.

Applying WD40 to your eyes must result in an inability of your enemies to grab onto your eyeholes. Clever.

That looks like an inspired contemporary execution of a bad decision. But if this had to happen Bill Skarsgård is a fine choice.

I imagine I'm exactly the target audience here (I adore the original) but everything I see about this new version looks either like a generic action film at best or stylized to the point of silliness.
Trying to figure out who they’re making this for.

Nobody is asking for this. Especially not after History of the World Part II.
Please, no more sequels to classic Mel Brooks movies.
The first person to propose a Blazing Saddles 2 should be fired. Out of a cannon. Into the sun.

I love Mel Brooks. But Mel Brooks now is NOT the Mel Brooks of 40 years ago.
However, to get things back on topic, I would like to see him do a reboot of The Crow.

This inspired me to watch The Crow again (It's on Prime Video in the US for another week). I haven't watched it in decades. It still holds up. I'd forgotten how much I loved the soundtrack.

Heck, even the Mel Brooks of a few years ago ain't the same. See that Dracula movie he did? That was AWFUL and painfully unfunny.

Yeah, it started with Spaceballs and then just went downhill fast for me. I preferred the Mel Brooks who took comedic risks to skewer our society, not the easy laughs Mel Brooks. I mean, he did have his low points in his earlier films, but they were evened out by some incredibly insightful satire. The later films just seemed devoid of any of that.

Definitely. While I still love Spaceballs and Men In Tights, those were where his movies went from clever comedy to slapsticky, "throw enough jokes at the wall and hope something sticks" brute force comedies.
He reeled it back in a bit with Life Stinks and others but the shine was definitely starting to dull.

It can all be summed up in the first few minutes of the movie when a bunch of racist slave owners demand Cleavon Little and his fellow slaves sing some “<racist insult> spirituals” for them….and they break into a lounge song complete with barbershop quartet vocals. You know at that moment that Brooks is going to spend the next 90 minutes or so showing you that racism is just stupid by subverting every western trope he can get his hands on in service of that goal.
It sometimes falters a bit in that pursuit, falling victim at times to the very thing it seeks to lampoon, but it’s still a classic piece of socially conscious comedy.
Also, it has Gene Wilder with one of the greatest comedy monologues of all time.
Here at PC Gamer I think it fair to say that we really, really didn't like the Borderlands movie, calling it 'an irredeemable mess' that had us 'longing for 1993's Super Mario Bros' film. Yes, it really is that bad. In fact, the Borderlands movie is so bad that someone has made a 3-minute song just from the bad reviews. Needless to say, the film, which reportedly cost $120 million to make, has been a box office megaflop, recouping so far just $25 million worldwide.
However, just when it looked like another video game movie adaptation was about to take the top spot for biggest flop of the year, as reported by Variety the reboot of gothic superhero film The Crow has somehow gone and outflopped Borderlands, generating just $4.6 million over its opening weekend on a budget of $50 million. In contrast, the Borderlands movie raked in $8.6 million over its opening weekend.
The reaction to The Crow reboot's release has been supremely negative among both critics and the director of the cult classic original 1994 adaptation of The Crow, Alex Proyas, who swiftly took to social media site Facebook after seeing the movie and watching it flop to state that, “I thought the remake was a cynical cash-grab. Not much cash to grab it seems”.
Aside from that, either PC Gamer doesn't understand RT scores or I don't.
Meanwhile, in terms of reviews, the Guardian film critic Benjamin Lee has called The Crow reboot 'one of 2024’s most atrocious films', while Empire called the movie 'a turkey in crow’s clothing'. Both publications gave the movie the lowest rating they offer, one out of five stars.
Things haven't been any better for The Crow in terms of audience rating, either. Over on movie review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a certified rotten rating of just 20%, with viewers stating that it 'is a thematically sluggish and visually sludgy experience', as well as 'tepid, unconvincing, overlong and genuinely draining'. One reviewer concludes, 'The Crow is devoid of spirit and has no feeling to lose.'
What's interesting, though, is that while The Crow may be on its way to taking the crown as 2024's biggest financial and critical flop, right now the Borderlands movie still far outflops it on Rotten Tomatoes in terms of audience rating, with the video game movie adaption sitting on a jaw-droppingly low rotten rating of just 10%. The Crow reboot, meanwhile, is currently rated at 20%. Clearly, gamers really have made their voices heard on this one.
The numbers cited align with the Tomatometer scores. As I understand it, the Tomatometer is based on reviews published by critics, whereas the Popcornmeter is based on audience reviews. The Popcornmeter scores for Borderlands and The Crow are currently 53% and 64% respectively, which completely undermines the dig about gamers making their voices heard -- the audience members who bothered to post a RT review just don't hate either movie as much as the critics.

It’s rare that the audience reviews and the critics reviews match on RT. Since the audience reviews are susceptible to reviews by people with political or cultural agendas (at least moreso than the critics reviews), I tend to use the critics review more often when deciding if a movie is worth seeing.
However, for Borderlands and The Crow, both seem to agree they’re not worth paying to see.

I don't disagree. I do want to see Borderlands, but I'm absolutely not willing to pay for it even as a digital rental.

RiffTrax is what the guys who used to do MST3K, and aren't named Joel, went on to do. They make bad movies worth watching.

Here's a doozy for you: Reagan has 19% Tomatometer and 98% Popcornmeter rating. Which makes me wonder how much they paid people to go see the movie and leave those (verified!) reviews.
Back to The Crow - just saw it. Bad pacing, bad confusing story, bad dialogue. The actors did their best with what they were given, which wasn't much. Skarsgård had flashes of personality, the girlfriend had all the charisma of an extra in a music video. A couple of good fight scenes. I definitely liked Borderlands better
